Is that the one you can run database and stuff on?

    You know dynamic sites?

Nope, it's not their database service.

Cloudfront is similar to AWS, but it keeps your files on "edge" servers located around the world. That way when someone in Indonesia (or wherever) requests your files they get served from a server that's as close as possible to Indonesia (or wherever). This helps to cut down on latency when your server is pushing files half way across the world.

This is probably only super useful for highly trafficked sites that could really use the extra boost in performance.

Glad the explanation helped a bit. This is a tool that will really help a lot of companies, but it really is mostly intended for high resource applications that get a lot of traffic. Most of us in the IM space are not going to run into a need for this.

It could be useful for major launches that draw in millions of visitors from all over the world to view large video files. If you can put those video files closer to the location of the viewer, then they will load faster. It also helps to distribute the serving of the files so that not all files are being served from the same server and therefore reduces some bottlenecking there.

Bottom line. It's a great service and will be tons less expensive than the nearest competitor. But, it's not really all that useful to the general website owner.

I just recently attached my Cloudfront to my S3 server (which i primarily use for vids) and it is lightning fast! I vouch for it 100%. Great for product launches or for those peeps who are proned to "server crashes". (I never understood that! lol)
