amazon s3 - Fastest video type? WMV / mp4 / FLV ?

When loading a file on amazon s3, for hosting your videos, for your readers to view from your website, what is the quickest file to upload

WMV or mp4 or FLV ?

(if i am experimenting, then the contents in identical on all 3 types)

or does it depend on the size of the file ?


I want efficient streaming for 100s of visitors, so would i be better to convert my amazon s3 powerpoint videos to WMV or mp4 or FLV ?

    It will depend on the size of the file and the length of the video. I always record mine as .mp4 videos now. They seem to give me the best size/quality ratio. Usually around 1-2MB per minute of video. I use EZS3.com to host those video on Amazon S3. It works well and the videos load nice and fast.

      and what is the difference between the free service VIA Paid? (any major benifits with paid? or can you get away with free)

    You will find their prices very reasonable for the reliability, quality and speed of service they provide. Their prices are around 15cents per GB of data transferred - that's tiny.

    What free services are you talking about? S3 is the standard now for hosting videos online. You will find most people use it.

        Yes, using Amazon S3 will make the video streaming faster. If you have multiple users watching a video on your own server, the performance of your server will gradually slow down.

        Not the case with Amazon S3. There is no limit to how many users you can have watching the same video at the same time. They will all be delivered the file nice and fast.

        And when you use the Amazon S3 Cloudfront option, this means your video files are automatically placed and hosted in several different locations all around the world so when someone comes to watch your video, the file will be delivered from the location closest to them. This speeds up the delivery of that video file to the user.

          is it faster using the eZs3 option, with amazon, compared to NOT using the eZs3 but using amazon s3 solo, without the eZs3?

          does using the eZs3 make the streaming a bit faster?

    Hard to say - I wouldn't think so. It's just an easy way of getting the videos on your site with very little fuss. All you do is upload your video to Amazon S3, login to EZS3.com and create a new video player. Then it gives you some code you just copy and paste straight into your website. Takes a few minutes.

      is it a flash video? or mp4 ?

      and if it doesnt use amazon s3, who is that one embedded? which player? (I checked the source but couldnt work it out)

      What are the advantages of flash videos to mp4? (i thoght not everybody has flash player embedded on their computers)
