How do you marketers in Russia do well?

I definitely think that there are opportunities in countries where Internet Marketing isn't done as heavily, because in my ways, there's less competition.

As with everywhere else, it takes a while for that kind of stuff to catch on, and if you get in on the front end, it can be quite profitable. There will be some limitations because everything wouldn't be readily available, but it's definitely possible!

That's quite a mistake. There is no "competition" because there is no market.

Little bit late for early 2010 - but if you meant 2011, please do a market research and study before you invest time, energy amd/or money in this project.

That is the key sentence here. Meaning: that's the mentality.
There is no IM becuse there is no market! People don't have enough income, they don't have credit cards and they will download and hack every possible computer software... not to mention 'infoproducts'.

On a general note: before anybody ventures to any unknown (for them) foreign market, do yourself a favour and study things like internet penetration, internet usage habits, average income, trust/untrust toward internet shopping and all the related topics.

The place where I was born also has beautiful landscape but people earn about $200-250/month. They will never buy any pdf ebook with your IM stuff :p

You hit the nail on the had there! I had raised a similar issue earlier in my post about whether the IM niche is appropriate to certain countries and cultures (in this case Russia).

From what I currently know and understand, I feel that there is a very low likelihood of IM as we know it catching on over there.

With the lower wages earned over there and their aversion to scams (not unfounded when Russian hackers are always doing some mischief all around the world), I very much doubt that IM is a viable field in Russia.

ROFL! That's what one of my top clients there said! My point to him was not people there buying stuff from us but people there selling stuff. Russia may have more opportunities from vacation to hunting to night life and more. Getting good information from reliable sources may be of interest.

I've worked for so many people from Russia over the past 6 years I need to learn the language. They tell me about Russia and the former states all the time. We Yanks need to spend more time studying that region to get the misconceptions out of our heads. I learned alot about housing costs from the rural regions to the big cities. Guys I work with there who've made a good living on the web tell me how $500 dollars to us is like gold to them.

It's an ever growing learning experience. All I know about the Russian folks in my neighborhood here is that they've had to come through great hardships and have a rich culture and love being in the U.S. because of any number of reasons. Believe me, my family is OLD American. We've had folks from Russia in the U.S. going back to before the Revolutionary War. It's heartbreaking to hear of the troubles during the Communist rule but we all hope things will get better over there.
