Google Acquires Groupon.com [NOT CONFIRMED]

Could Google be moving into the coupon industry. Sources
are reporting that it has..

Google has just purchased Groupon for $2.5 billion, according to an unnamed insider who spoke with VatorNews. Neither Google nor Groupon could be reached for comment to confirm the report, but Vator's source is reliable and the report falls in line with the recent string of Groupon acquisition rumors.

This is unconfirmed but really makes you wonder, whether google
is adding something to the directory, or something else to there site.

What I don't know about is where the profit from this service would
come from...

I'll take a stab at it and say that the profit will come from the thousands of businesses that will pay to advertise with Google Coupon's in the search results. That would be my best guess.

      True.

Quick Note: in The title I say "Acquires" it's not yet confirmed.

I was hoping Groupon was going to hold out and create their own company like Facebook did.

The Groupon sales people plus the Google geeks will be an interesting match.

Wow...that is a blockbuster deal. It probably will tie into Google Local as well.

Not too surprised if correct based on seeing a high number of Groupon Adsense ads on my websites within the past few weeks, probably far more ads comparatively speaking vs any other advertiser. Maybe tests to see what kind of CTR Groupon image ads get.

If it is true, then offliners better get real cosy with their existing clients, and make sure they become affiliated with this service asap... otherwise your local businesses might just slip away to the greedy hands of Google.

Yeah, they've been in talks with Groupon ...
Facebook tries to buy Foursquare but talks fail
    So Facebook launches Facebook Deals
Google scratches head and buys Groupon

    ... and the wars continue

If anything they would sell to Facebook as they already have the customer brand but I don't think they will sell, partnership maybe but not sell. Google is becoming too greedy with everything else.

Well I guess I was wrong. Google is upping its bid to a whopping $5.3 billion to $6 billion.
Google May Acquire Groupon for $6 Billion, and It Would Be Worth Every Penny

I am totally amazed as how one can become a billionaire in just a few short years and I just heard about Groupon this year. Now with that said, why don't we, members of WF pull together and create something like Groupon or better?. I'm sure if we share in a $6 billion dollar empire it will give us a better life and plenty money to play with, because I'm know it didn't take one person to create Groupon.

Excuse me sir. Please pass the Groupon.

      Well LD,

Most of these companies never thought that
they would be making billion's of dollars, and
were never in it to make that. You keep saying
that you are a future billionaire, so you should
let us know how you plan to do it, have you
even made your first million, or just dreaming
      big.

Lots of ways they could profit from this. Google Local, Adsense, YouTube, to name a few. They could even set up Google "Alerts" to notify someone every time a local business they like has a new Groupon. And not to mention Google TV... if that ever catches on big, that would be a perfect avenue for (local) Groupon ads.

I can see how this might be worth a few B's to Google in a relatively short period of time, if they can integrate it well with their current services. The infrastructure is certainly there for them to make some big bucks from it.

Now, I see something interesting here, the integration
into there services, which could mean a lot of things for
google, and retailers. As well as offline seo people,
because coupons could start to show up in search results
and maybe, even integrated with there Google Places
service. Which could make things different.

It could also add a HUMONGOUS profit margin for businesses
who want to start giving out coupons.
