How Big Of An Impact Does A WP Theme Have On Conversions?

I was reading a WSO that I purchased the other day and it suggested a specific WP theme stating that it had a better conversion rate than others. My question is how much impact does the theme really have on your conversions and can't the same result be achieved plugins?

    Xfactor ?

    Just a guess.

You're far too vague to give a real answer.

If it is xfactor and we are talking about adsense, yeah the layout of your theme can have a huge impact on the number of clicks you get.

Aside from that, like I said, you haven't given enough information to give a better answer. Ask whoever wrote the WSO who what when where and why.

      Thanks for the input,

It's not Xfactor, it's for a lead generation site for offline businesses and it does not have adsense. In the videos the guy claims that the Thesis theme converts significantly better than a free site that looks almost the same. At first I thought it was because he had an affiliate link but it does not appear to be the case, which is why I asked my original question.

    Greetings Arundel,

When it comes to clicks / conversions, there is alot more to it then just the theme. But in saying that, location of offers and structure of the page can increase or decrease your ctr on the advertisements.

If you only have an ad in your right hand sidebar, alot of people are going to miss it. If you have an ad at the start of your content, or in the middle of your content, people will be forced to look at it while they are reading, this will increase your your CTR alot (and hopefully your sales).

if you look at google adsense's help section - for recommended ad placements, you can see where they suggest you put the ads for maximum click though.

A wordpress theme that allows you to place adverts cleanly in your site, that's both easy for you to use and for people visiting your site.

I use socrates and find it easy to use, can't comment on effect on conversion.

There is a wordpress addon called "who see's ads" it is a great addon that allows you to specify where your ads are seen, and how they are seen.

I would highly recommend it if you want to control the ad placement on your sites.

If the seller of the WSO is not marketing the theme, then maybe they have a point. Maybe they did split test the theme against others. You should give it a try.

Don't look to your theme to do your converting for you.

A theme does next to nothing to convert someone to buy a product, but it CAN damage conversions.

I've tested with some beautiful lavish themes that I thought would convert extremely well because they made my site so good to look at. But conversions on these sites were terrible. Conversions immediately went up when I switched to a blank white completely minimal theme.

Let your copy do the selling, not the theme. The job of the theme is to simply stay out of the way, so your copy can do the selling.

    best of luck.

Sure it's not a cloaked link? I would bet on it being an affiliate link. Maybe not, not all authors are bloodsuckers.

Regardless, Thesis isn't going to make a difference. It doesn't have any super SEO mojo that other themes lack. That doesn't mean all themes are equal but it also doesn't mean that Thesis is going to have any advantage of any other well SEO'd theme.
