I've been such a loyal FireFox user for at least 3-4 years now but I gotta say, tonight I've been using Chrome all night and I think it's faster.

Tell me it ain't so! Is FireFox getting kicked to your curb too? Anyone else like Chrome too?

I've made the change to Chrome too a few weeks ago. FF had come into a habit of freezing up on me and it started to annoy me. Chrome hasn't yet. The only thing I use FF for at this time is for internet banking, for some reason Chrome doesn't want to open the page.

Me too!!! Drives me insane! That's why I tried Chrome instead because I was sick of it being slow and frozen. I thought it was maybe because I had too many addons but Chrome has just as many and it runs smoother.

He, I figured it was 'cause my hard disk was close to completely full, well that and the number of addons I had. But as you said, Chrome doesn't have an issue with either one of those. Guess Mozilla went wrong somewhere in their last upgrade.

Yes Chrome is great to use but don't try and uninstall it as i had severe problems with my PC after i did.

I lost loads of work and also most of my functions which i just got used to also got wiped and i'm just feeling my way back in now.

LOL... I had this problem with an early release of Firefox. The dev team insisted that the bug report was "Bogus" because this was simply impossible and clearly I was just trying to give Firefox bad press.

And people wonder why I still use IE.

Me too. I made the mistake of uninstalling Chrome because it wasn't working properly and I had to end up reformatting my computer. But now my FF is unbelievably slow and it's really, seriously starting to get on my goat. So, should I try reinstalling Chrome again and if so, is there any precautions or steps that I should take prior to reinstalling please?

When i do research, which is like every day, i have up to 30 tabs open and firefox just can't handle it.

Chrome seems the fastest and most stable at the moment for pretty much everything.

Firefox still has all the add ons, i use it for seo research.

Installed IE9, really buggy for me, had to uninstall it.

Opera is pretty fast and so so on the large amount of tab handling.

I have used firefox for as long as I can remember however I switched to chrome a few weeks ago and I must say I do like it. It does seem fast and it can handle lots of tabs. The only thing I don't like is the downloading. Firefox's 'downloadthemall' was awesome. Hopefuly something similar comes out for chrome

I love Chrome for its speed and responsiveness. Also, Chrome uses multi-threading, so if a Web page crashes, it only crashes that tab and not the entire browser.

I used FireFox exclusively for many years, but since getting this laptop in July I've since gone from Internet Explorer, to Chrome, to Opera, back to FireFox, then to the latest version of Internet Explorer (version 9?) - which I actually rather like - and then back to FireFox.

An annoying problem with FireFox is that it doesn't and can't "blend in" with the rest of my desktop/theme as well as IE does, and kinda repulses me, aesthetically.

But it has more plugin/addon support, and my fingerprint scanner (for logging into sites) seems to function more efficiently within it.

So I'll go ahead and say FireFox is still the best all-rounder, IMO!

Yeah.. Chrome is faster.. the file size is even smaller than FF. The only thing I prefer FF over Chrome is that it has a lot of plugin and make things (research, data mining etc) easier.

Order of my browsers: I have five installed I think.

      1. Chrome (70%)
      2. FF (20%)
      3. Opera
      4. Opera portable (on all my pcs)
      5. Rockmelt

I have tried Safari (crap on my pc), K-meleon, Seamonkey, ... The worst is probably Safari so far. I like it, but my pc can't handle it properly. I also don't like the Safari 'look'. If I wanted a mac, I'd have bought one...

I never use IE except to login to one particular bank website that hasn't sussed how important cross browser compatibility is.

I also use roboform and there is a special little app that they have available for chrome users. Google it and David Fishdick(?) has done a terrific video showing how to install it. If I can do that, anyone can. Now I can get on and do some 'proper' work.

Switching to the design interface, well what can I say it looks great! easy, simple and professional are the three words that come to mind. With a sleek and simple safari like look it is sure to win a lot of awards. Finally all in all this is Google's first attempt and they have done very well, they have built a browser taking into consideration the new developments of websites, so unlike Firefox and IE who have had to upgrade and tweak there browsers to suit new design and coding needs. Chrome has been designed to cater for the future view of web pages from the beginning.

I've been using FF for a long time now as I like for the SEO purposes. But admitingly I do not know much about Chrome. Can you do research on other website like you can with FF?

FF has been driving me crazy lately. It crashes all the time, it has screwed up my all in one seo for wordpress... my title tags were getting screwed up. and when i minimized FF i could not get back into the browser when I clicked on the tab at the bottom of my page. So then I would need to do a ctrl alt delete to close FF and then restart it.

But i like all the features FF has. Not sure about Chrome after reading this thread and for my purposes. Plus what if I dont like it? Uninstalling it sounds like a nightmare. And how good is it for seo and research?

Anyone have any pointers on how to properly set up FF so it works well... i.e. setting up options etc...

Maybe now that I uninstalled FF I should try to reinstall it and see what happens? Im just not geeky enought to set these things up properly.

I've been testing FF4 beta in terms of how many windows I can have open at one time without it crashing (I use Win 7 w/ 8 gigs ram), because FF 3.6 DID crash all the time (again, because I always have a ton of windows open.)

As of this time, I've had 51 windows open (yea, I know) with FF4 beta, and NOT A SINGLE CRASH - and they've been open for three days non-stop! I'm only able to use about 1/2 of my plugins, but I'll trade that for stability and increased speed. I've tested chrome too, and I think FF4 is just as fast. Plus, the top of chrome is almost TOO spartan for me. JMO, but I'm sticking with Firefox (version 4, at least).

The way I use my browser, none of the others are sufficient like FF and the add-ons I use; not to mention RoboForm.

Yes, after being open a while and multiple tabs open it becomes a resource hog... but a simple restart fixes this issue. There's even a "Restart FireFox" add-on because this is such a common issue.

Also, just shutting it down and allowing Windows to reclaim those resources is an even better fix to the resource thing.

One of the features of FF that I couldn't live without is the "restore session" feature; (esp. when a shutdown is necessary); because I'd be sh** outta luck and extremely frustrated if I had to reopen all the tabs I usually have open.

I looked at and tested Chrome out because of one of the features it has to create an "app" out of a single webpage... but, after discovering "Prism" for FF, there's no longer a need for Chrome, (for me).

The ONLY time I open Chrome now is to either check a website layout; (which isn't different from FF); but, I do the same with IE, (which IS significantly different from FF -- page layout wise)... OR to just check something out using a different cookie/session. I choose Chrome over IE to open a new session because its faster than IE.

I've never found Chrome to be 'faster' than FF; although I dug deep and found out how to tweak FF performance a long time ago.

I think it all boils down to personal preference and how you use your browser, really. Just like the debate between Windows & MAC based machines.

    Just my 2¢

Nancy, before you do that, I highly suggest trying Firefox 4.0 (still in beta, but VERY stable - I've been using it intensively for about a month now). It resolves a lot of the issues that were making Firefox 3.XX such a pain to use -

Nancy, you're welcome. Please, please try version 4.0 and not any of the earlier ones, because there is a vast difference in speed with 4.0! I found it hard to believe initially that a new version could make such a quantum leap in performance, but now I'm a die-hard fan.

Hi Paul - do I have to un-install 3.6.13 first, or will FF 4 install to a new directory? And can both versions exist installed at the same time? I also have concerns that many of my current plug-ins won't be compatible with 4 beta.

        Thanks!

Maury, no need to uninstall 3.6. FF 4 will install to a separate directory, and they can both coexist without any issues (this is what I currently have on my computer). I'm sure that not all of the plugins work, but you can always revert back to 3.6 anytime you want, if you need to use them. FYI, all the plugins that I had on 3.6 currently work on 4.0.

Maury, I've definitely heard about this. The web socket issue poses a huge security threat to your computer, and this is why Mozilla is disabling for the time being until they come up with a secure solution for it. It shouldn't impact your normal web browsing, so unless you're a web developer who is creating applications/sites you shouldn't find too much to complain about.

Compared to Firefox 3.xx, FF 4 is WAY faster - probably right there with Chrome. And yes, about 1/2 of my plugins don't work - but most of them that don't work (yet) I can live without. My biggest hindrance is that RoboForm 6.xx won't work in FF 4. Roboform is coming out with a version 7, but I don't know if that will work with FF 4. Sorry, HAVE to have Roboform! Roboform works with Chrome, but few plugins! Common, why can't I have everything??

Seriously, my feeling is that once FF 4 is released as a stable browser, most of us probably won't be worried about which browser is better. Hang tough, FF fans!

I just called Roboform and found out that their NEW version (7) DOES support FF 3.xx AND FF 4. I'll have to pay to upgrade, but the extra speed plus 1/2 my plugins might be worth it (but that's JMO).

well, you used firefox for a long time and compare it with a new install of chrome? that's not a scientific way to compare. the speed depends on lots of things. browser software is complex than it looks,

literally, the fastest browser is Opera.

If you use Chrome like I do, and love it, do you know that you are giving your statistics to Google voluntarily? I recently found this and hope to share.

There is totally no reason for a company like Google to simply just develop a browser for the internet community without getting something out of you, and here they do it in the form of your usage statistics. I really dunno what they would do with it, but I turned it off. Here's how:

When you get into your browser, there is this little tool beside the bar where you key in a site's URL. Click it. Go to under the hood tab in the popup. you would see the Send usage statistics box automatically checked. Uncheck it and presto, You stopped feeding the big G your usage statistics!

Sorry if I say something that's been said already, but I just wanted to share something I found which was really useful.

After my Firefox got so slow, I started looking for a solution. The only thing that worked and was so easy, was the following:

Firefox Running Slow? Make It Fast Again Without Re-Installation

Worked like a charm, my Firefox is now as fast as it was at the beginning.

    BUT..

On the other hand, I am now using Chrome for most stuff.

I use Firefox only when I'm on WF because Chrome doesn't transform bbcode automatically while you're writing a post, like Firefox.

    Take care,

Thanks Paulie for the effusive praise of Firefox 4, I had put off downloading it because I was worried about going back... But Firefox is pretty much unsustainable for me as it currently stands.

I normally hover between Firefox and IE, but have been using both Opera and Chrome over the last month or so. My default is still Firefox, but I think unless Firefox 4 is more stable then Chrome will become my default because of Roboform support. If it wasnt for that then it would be Opera.

I start to like Google Chrome too. I use it very ofter since I installed it. Sometime I open my Mozilla Firefox for the plug-in I have installed. I think Chrome in the next years would be a problem for Firefox.
