What a day! Bluehost just emailed me that I need to remove the files in my hosting. They said I have more than 206446 files, and from their research Our research they said that server performance degrades when accounts have over 50,000 files. So basically I have to remove 75% of my sites. OMG! I bought the unlimitted disk space and bandwidth account. Does Hostgator have the same TOS like Bluehost?

The only give me 2 weeks for this.

Get a dedicated server if you need to keep the files. Cheap hosting will eventually mess with your business model.

bluehost not really provide unlimited disk space, the limit of 50,000 files is a hidden tos.

Read my post above. It is common sense. A single server whether shared OR dedicated cannot host an unlimited number of files. There is a breaking point where you won't be able to add anymore information and/or there are too many processes running that the server continually crashes.

Hostgator are the same. They can not offer you unlimited hosting in the real sense of the word. They will contact you the moment you have too many files and it starts slowing down the server for everyone else.

Will is right. Every host that advertises "Unlimited Bandwidth", Unlimited space" etc., will have a fair usage policy in place. No one can provide "unlimited" features, as there is only a finite amount of resources available.

You might be better off with a reseller account. You will then see when you are running out of space, and can upgrade.

Nothing is unlimited these days - there is always hidden terms. No one can give you unlimited anything on a single server. Every server has a breaking point and eventually it will be met, as you have found. Did you really think you would be able to just keep adding and adding forever?

Purchase another hosting package and transfer half of your sites to the new hosting.

Has posted this several times, and yet people still dont believe it.
NOTHING is unlimited, nothing! There is always a limit.

No way in **** they are going to let one user consume 90% of the server ressources, so they have to deal with 50 people complaining about it.

Nothing is unlimited, they will find a way to get rid of you or limit your usage.
It all comes down to the money. Are you, as a client, worth to keep?

    Sad but true.

You pay $5 for unlimited, a dedi costs you over $100
a month when you get a good one, it ruins a server when
one guy has soo many files. They have to look out for
themselves. The term unlimited is abused.

And just an FYI, I took over a hosting company when
I was 15, for free, because they took all my sites down,
they offered unlimited master resellers, and more, for like
$3 a month, I know the kind of mess that it makes, and
we suspended accounts with notice, because they had too
high of a load on our server.

Mind you, half those accounts were probably violating TOS
anyway to get such high loads.

At least they should tell that files is limited to 50,000. Despite my stupidity, is that right to "hidden" that kind of term.

They would have told you in the terms that you skipped over and didn't read before you signed up. Regardless, you are naive for thinking it could in fact be unlimited. It is impossible. Move on and get another account. It's not brain surgery.

P.S. I had the same problem at Hungry Jacks with their unlimited refill drinks. I kept walking in everyday with my cup to refill on the way to work. They didn't like it. :-)

No hosting company will really give unlimited resources (diskspace, bandwidth, etc) for such cheap price, if the unlimited resorces are really exist. Also I think the term unmetered is more appropriate than unlimited, which means that the hosting company let you use its resources without calculating your usage in one server, if the resources are still available.

I have the same issue on hostmonster .. they claim to offer unlimited everything, and than they cry about having more than 50 000 files.

If you have larger project, I recommend going with VPS hosting like Linode, or Amazon EC2, which just launched new Micro Instances for small projects. Reserved instance is around $5/month and you can do anything you want.
