Typical Blog VS Editorial Blog

Should I make my blog editorial?

I'm kind of in a dilemma right now?

I'm trying to decide whether or not to change my blog up from being a typical blog with recent full posts being displayed down the content section...to be more editorial like an online-magazine feel to it.

What are the pros and cons of each, and doing this?

In my mind, I see the typical blog is much more personal, and I can connect with my audience on a more personal level and establish more trust...however, the editorial style seems to establish more credible and authority, but it is more impersonal like somebody is working with a major business corporation instead of personally with me, so the trust-factor might be a little shady there when there isn't a face of the blog.

Just want to know what you guys think? And any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

That totally depends on you. If you have a story to share than a blog can provide more credibility and authority than a disconnected online magazine. It takes work and dedication though. I think that's the biggest plus of a blog - you don't need to seel them because they are already there to hear what you have to say.

A 'blog' of recent reviews and affiliate marketing copy would look better presented as a magazine but you will only be winning over the one off visitors with your perceived authority. I think a well written article on a decent looking site will be all you need for organic traffic. A magazine theme shouldn't make your content less important.

A true blog on the other hand can have people coming back for more.

A quality 'magazine' style website is usually made up of a lot of 'blogs' written by regular contributors - or at least quality article style content that can stand on its own two feet.

thanks Fraggler for describing a "quality 'magazine' style website is usually made up of a lot of 'blogs' written by regular contributors".

Gave me a good idea for a JV I'm doing with a friend, I'm developing the website but it will also be both of us blogging.

So I'm thinking "magaziny style" now:
Banner at the top for branding/logo
    Row of Navigation links.
Full width section with info of what the site is.
    {then for the remaining half of the page....}
Left hand side: his blog posts | Right hand side: my blog posts
    Footer: T&C/Privacy/etc

Also: the far right hand side of the site from top to bottom will be a thin section with a "call to action" with whatever is currently going on, such as joining up to our email list.

Excellent, can see it in my head already! Now off to do it....
