How Do You Go About Marketing Retail Stores?

Alot of information here are great for marketing info products. Things like article marketing, link building, SEO, opt ins etc.

However, not many methods are geared towards ecommerce sites. So how do you actually market or promote ecommerce websites? Is it using the same methods you would with info products?

That's because those marketing strategies apply in general to most businesses that have an online presence - so they are still relevant.

There's a difference between marketing products and marketing services - but what you're refering to are both product marketing so they're generally the same with the obvious exception that online marketplaces also have specialised directories which they can get listed in.

It is basic online marketing 101. I would do all of the same things I do for info products.

But a friend of mine has dozens of ecommerce sites, and he swears that all he has to do is to build his site and wait for Google.

It is hard to argue with him, when he makes so much more money than I do, but then again, I look at other ecommerce sellers who struggle to get noticed.

May be within few months, I am launching my first e-commerce website. We are in the process of starting a retail stores which will also have e-retail facility

I have been researching on beneficial marketing and feel that the typical online marketing techniques are of no use for e-commerce websites (Oh, they do help a bit). I feel marketing directly on social sites for particular region is more profitable and gives more returns.

However, I am still working on it

The methods are similar but the effectiveness of each method may differ widely. For example, affiliate programs and mailing list play a very small part in most e-commerce sites. The reasons are that they pay much less in terms of affiliate commissions, and that in the case of a mailing list, the signup rate is often poor and it is difficult to hold a sale every month or so.

SEO normally plays the largest role in e-commerce sites. On site optimization of product pages is very important. PPC can only be used for products with high profit margins and profit.

There are also shopping search engines that can give sales e.g. Google shopping, bizrate, shopping.com and price grabber.
