Free Website or Paid website

Is it better to create a website with a pre-made website builder or have a website professionally built for your niche...

I was wondering this because i've been offered a few pre-made website builder (not top quality ones but good enough)

should I just save my money and attempt to build a free one or get a professional to do the job for a reasonable price. I understand its all about quality/good content in the end...

Maybe we should clarify what is a "free" website and what is a "paid" website.

A free website builder, as you put it, is not exactly what people mean when talking about 'free websites'.

I have my domain and my hosting and I use either WordPress (a free script) or PSPad (a free html editor) to make/create sites. So, are they free or paid?

The usual meaning of 'free website' is a site where you don't pay for hosting and/or it is created on their domain.

Yea free website would be something like 000webhost, byethost, or even blogger and wordpress.com (that's wordpress.com and not .org two different sites).

If you're talking about free website design that can be done through either a free designing you site for you or downloading free websites from numerous of sites on the internet. If you're using Wordpress for you blog there is even free themes available to download too.

    Hope this helps.

My bad, what I meant to say is one of those pre-made do it yourself website builders. Personally I have no idea how to create a website from scratch with html, but would like a professional website for my niche.

I was offered a "build a website in under 10 minutes" from a guy on here but not too sure if I want to do that. I'm gearing more towards getting someone to build it for me, but wasn't sure If that would just be a waste of cash If I had the ability to do it myself with a pre-made builder..

also, whats wordpress everyone speaks of

Wordpress was originally blogging software. However, because it's very search engine friendly, lots of people, including myself, use it for making other sorts of websites, even squeeze pages.

There are plenty of free Wordpress themes out there to meet your needs, some of them very customizable with no HTML required!

If you want something very complicated you may have to pay someone to design you a bespoke theme.

The advantage of Wordpress is that once you have a theme that you're happy with, your website can be very easily updated.

You'll need a hosting account, preferably with Fantastico which takes the work out of installing Wordpress. There's nothing really technical about using it, it's pretty much point and click.

Wordpress also has a large number of helpful "plugins" that help you to do things that don't come with standard Wordpress and can optimize your site for SEO. It's basically all geared towards non-programmers being able to do pretty smart stuff with their websites.

        Hope this helps

I have always used Wordpress and generally use paid themes but I assume you're looking to build something more complex.

I agree - it is about good content - but if your site is poorly formatted, I probably won't bother staying long enough to see what you have to say...

Wordpress > WordPress › Blog Tool and Publishing Platform

It is a CMS = Content Management System (originally, a blogging script).
With a CMS you can set up a website quite easily and your next worries would be only providing the content - the script does the rest.

I agree, if you're a newbie and need your website for a blog, Wordpress is the best choice for you. It's a very convenient and neat content management system, it's optimized for search engines, and you can install a lot of free plugins to expands site's functionality and visibility in SERPs. Also, some free design themes are very good.
This choice, though free, is much better than plain html-written site, even if you hire someone to do it from scratch, because you will need to optimize every page for search engines, create site map, interlink all pages correctly, and lots of other stuff. On Wordpress you have all that ready.
