Solo Ads and Adswaps?

I'm a newbie to the internet marketing world and just getting started selling our eCourses. This I'm sure is a dumb question, but I see a lot of Solo Ad offers and Adswap offers on the JV section of the forum. Can someone please clarify what they are offering? Again, dumb question, but I figured I would ask anyway...

They are offering to send an email ad that you write to their list in exchange for:
    a) money (solo ad)
    b) you sending an email ad to your similar sized list (adswap)

These are both strategies you can use to drive traffic to your squeeze pages and offers.
I recently bought a solo ad from a fellow warrior and I got good results
so solo ads work, you may want to try them for yourself.

    good luck

no question is dumb in here..
    well ok maybe some

In super basic terms, a "Solo Ad" is when you (generally) pay someone to mail THEIR email list, on your behalf, with a recommendation and link to your free optin offer squeeze page.
An "Ad Swap" is the same idea only two people do it in exchange with each other to help each other out. (If one has a much larger list than the other, the one with the smaller list may need to mail twice, to send a fair amount of traffic.)

Basically it's a partnership, or a team attack for gain and/or trade customers, lists, and ultimately income.

An ad swap might be, me doing and e-mail to my 2k list recommending your product, and you in turn would send an email to your list recommending me.

Joint Ventures are more along the lines of, affiliating another marketer. For example, if I agree to recommend your new product to my list in exchange for a commission, we then have established a Joint Venture. AKA 'jv'
