As an Affiliate, Am I Allowed to Recommend a Product That I Have Never Used Before?

Hi, I don't want to get sued in the future. I was wondering is it okay for me to recommend a product to other people that I have never used before? Yes or no?

    Yes it's ok,

When I say to my friends that I would buy the latest mercedes, I never used it...

there are 2 schools of thoughts on this subject. It's a old and long debate.

    Franck.

I understand. Thanks, but what are the two schools of thought?

I'm a starter, but I am willing to try everything I can to be a successful internet marketer and chase my dreams. If you can answer any of my questions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I would recommend a Honda over a Chevrolet even though I have never used either.

Good for you. I don't sell cars so I wouldn't recommend either.

    You can, but why bother?

It's HARD to get enthusiastic about something you know very little about.

There are millions of products which have affiliate programs -- search for the products you use, and promote them.

For example, eBay has a great affiliate network. Just promote eBay products you're familiar with. If you use a digital camera, you can write about digital photography, and insert an eBay widget onto the page...

    Cheers

There is nothing illegal about it, but it might not be the smartest thing you do. The biggest asset you have is your list, and if you tell them "Hey this is a good guy with a good product, buy it" and it turns out the guy is a POS with a product to match your going to lose a lot of what you have worked for.

    Hi angel99, thanks for this.

Well, the truth is I don't have enough money to buy the product right now. I'm doing a daily regimen and I really believe that I'll make enough money to buy the product soon and try it.

I know enough about the product to promote is, it's just right now I need some time. That's why I asked if it was okay since I'm recommending a product to other people pretty much based on the info of the merchant's sales page.

why not contact the merchant and ask for a free review copy?

Affiliates do it all the time...however it is important to be familiar with the product you plan on promoting.

    I do it daily!

Usually I will jump online and check out as many reviews as possible and make an educated guess. I promote hundreds of products over a bunch of different sites so its impossible to try them all. Not to mention I dont want to try them all (makeup for example)

Use your own moral compass... If you dont feel comfortable recommending it then move onto something you have experience with.

    Hope this helps!

I definitely think it's okay if you thoroughly research the product and existing reviews of it first. If you truly believe it's a good product than a recommendation is fine in my book.

yeah I agree it's nothing wrong recommend a product without a try as mike pointed out, you can't try everything before you promote, it's not real!

you can't just do that. if majority said if a product is good, then it should be fine
to promote it. hopes that help

Of course it was helpful - it was the answer you wanted.

I don't know why you really posted this - it's YOUR choice and you can do what you want.

If you just want people to agree that you can do what you want, you don't need to come here for that - just ask your friends.

  • Hi,

Affiliate marketing means getting paid to recommend someone else's product. When someone purchases a product that you recommend on your site, blog or newsletter, you get a commission.

    Its advantages are :

1.It's almost always free to join an affiliate program.
2.It's a low cost business to start.
3.You can join as many affiliate programs as you want.

Its better first to understand about different marketing strategies before you proceed...

    Thank you.....

I feel that it is ok to promote products that you have never tried before. But make sure you research about the products first before recommending it.

Check out all reviews and make a decision whether the product will benefit your list or friends.

It is okay to promote products that you have never used, but I don't think you can give a fair and honest valuation of something if you are lacking a first hand knowledge and experience with that particular product. I believe that in the long run you will do much better with a product that strikes up enthusiasm within you because you know its true potential. Words may be words just typed on a page, but people can feel empathy in writing, and if you are sincere it will get you a lot further.

As an Affiliate, yes you can recommend a product that you have not used. I said you can, but it is not advisable. Recommending a product you have not used to your LIST or friends, may make you loose face in the future if it turns out the product is not good.

So think about this well, if it is something you want to do.
