How to monetize this site?

I have a site in Spain no1 for a competitive keyword/s I bought the site and built up its links but now I would like to make some money with it (obviously)

Not many uniques, around 200 a day. I was thinking maybe some kind of ads/ spanish ebook.

Any ideas guys, the niche is solar panels.

Thanks but adsense really doesn't pay much and makes the site look a bit spammy, IMHO.

Adsense sucks. Unless you are getting a LOT of traffic OR you are running 1000 sites that get little traffic - even then I think there are still much better ways to monetize a site than using Adsense. Adsense is what a lazy person does to try and monetize a website.

If you are getting 200 visitors to your site per day, add an exit popup such as Robert Planks Action Popup (search that on Google) so that every time a visitor leaves the site you can offer them a free report, etc to do with solar panels. Maybe you could look around an find some solar panel companies that pay referral fees and your free report could simply be a guide that lists the top 5-10 solar panel companies - you get the idea.

      Adsense.... pfft!

Try and find some kind of eBook that translates to Spanish about your niche and promote them.

*edit, missed the part about solar panels... 'eh, have no idea how to monetize that niche.

Search google for other solar panel sites and see how they are doing it. Might give you some ideas.

Create a lead capture and sell leads to solar panel companies.

Says who? If you have an optin form that says put your details in here and you will be contacted by one of our solar panel experts to talk through your options, how is that illegal? This is called lead generation and happens every single day on the Internet.

It's the "selling the leads" bit that WD Mino was suggesting is "illegal", I think. It isn't, actually, but I'm not sure whether it would be acceptable under the TOS of any reputable autoresponder company (though I suppose you wouldn't really need an autoresponder, if you were simply selling the leads rather than contacting them?).

No autoresponder used in this method. You collect the leads and sell them to businesses for a negotiated rate. I've got a friend who has been doing this for years. He sets up mini sites, advertises them on PPC, collects the leads and sells them to businesses in that niche - it's perfectly legal and there are many people doing this. I believe they are called lead brokers.

You can sell each lead to various companies or if a company wants the leads exclusively, they pay more. The businesses follow up with the leads via telephone, not email

Offering some eBooks on your site is a good idea. You can use adsense to enhance your earning.

You could always find a company that sells solar panels or related items that also has an affiliate program and start directing traffic to them and collecting commissions.

Or you could just find out if these same companies would be interested in buying ad space on your site

Amazon is what I would do. Also Clickbank have a few ebooks on DIY solar panels so that might be a go as well.

There are plenty of Spanish products (with Spanish sales pages) on Clickbank. Have you seen any of those? (I don't know whether there are any in this niche. They have sunshine in Spain, don't they?).

I'd stay away from AdSense myself, but that's just me ...

Thanks, I did see one relevant ebook in Spanish, but no where near the choice in English.

    I have some ideas:

    1. Collect emails by giving away a free eBook on "going green" since site is on solar panels... can be green energy, DIY green or whatever
    2. Find somewhere that allows you to sign up as an affiliate that sells solar panels? Is there such a thing? Amazon has it...
    3. Become a solar panel distributor or reseller using the site to generate sales leads

Hope this helps to churn some ideas.

You could look in the yellow pages ("paginas amarillas" in Spain) for companies selling or installing solar panels, contact them and ask them if they'd be interested in advertising in your site for a monthly fee.

That might be the easiest way to start monetizing quickly.

Here you are the direct link to the search for "paneles solares" in the yellow pages, in case it helps:
      Paneles solares España

And of course, you can offer a free report on something related to green products, like ClavinWarr suggested, to build your list. Then, contact these companies again and tell them you have a list of ### users interested in solar panels and eco products, and that you can send any promotion they want to that list for a fee.

        .
This is probably worth a look, just a quick glance found 2000 solar companies/installers it's a shame the Spanish economy is suffering at the moment. If I had the number 1 site in the US for solar panels Im sure it would be quite profitable.

Actually Home Depot has an affiliate program. I would sign up there and sell some solar panels.

I would contact companies and offer them advertising for a monthly fee. I would also join Amazons Associate program and sell relevant products using my Amazon affiliate link.

To me,since you said you have a unique traffic of 200 or so,I believe buillding a list out of them is worth it[or do you have one already?].But if you don't,you
    can give it try.
You can do this by putting up a very simple ebook say 8-12 pages related to the niche you are into.By this way you can easily and gladly collect their email addresses. It is the BOMB.
Remember the money is in the list.

Amazon if it's more about the physical products themselves, ClickBank if it's about how to install them and so forth as I am sure there are several guides. You may even be able to find a Spanish version of such a guide.

Sure, building a list works for several niches - but how many solar panels is someone going to buy or need to install? It isn't the sort of niche that keeps on giving so to speak, but you could still work with an autoresponder series to up your conversion rate.

Its a nice idea So why not take what you are passionate about and either provide it as a downloadable e-book, or in a face-to-face seminar?

Thanks for all the replies...building a list and selling leads sounds like an interesting idea, never done it but worth a go.. selling actual panels would be tricky (but not impossible) I am in Israel.
I have seen adsense done well but for the traffic amount not sure it's worth it.
Selling banner space might be better but Ive no idea where to start except cold calling companies.
Any help on that would be appreciated...
No Amazon or home depot in Spain ;-)
