Tips for designing a site

Does anyone have any tips for designing a membership site? I have been having a hard time trying to make a professional-looking membership site. I just don't know where to place certain things. You can view it at Contenttap.com

The best advice I can give is to think of it from the perspective of your members.

If you're just logging on and you're looking for a PLR article pack for the weight loss niche, how would you want to find it? What information do you want to see?

Same thing with the ebooks and software.

Break things into categories and use tags with keywords people will want to search for.

Thanks, I want to put a check box search thing in but I don't know how. I am also looking for tips about what to put on the front page, I like the Iphones but I don't think they convey what my site is supposed to be about (articles and ebooks mostly), I have tried to find a replacement for that and the "The right way to do business" banner but I haven't really figured out what would look better.

Are you using Wordpress? You should be able to go to Appearance >> Widgets in the WP dashboard and add a search widget. Different themes will let you add it to different areas.

Think about it from your customer's prospective. What would you want to see?

I would want to see what I'm getting from you. Show me some ebook covers from some of the cool PLR ebooks I'll have access to.

Elementary no doubt but not all membership sites make that effort to brand their pages. Don't let your checkout, login, account management pages and members' area be a mish-mash of designs. It causes a lot confusion to the point that people will just give up on signing up. Ensure the flow from sales, to checkout and login pages blend together seamlessly. Don't surprise people or make people wonder if the site they are checking out from is the same as the site that's selling the membership.

    2. Clearly Display What They Will Pay Today And The Coming Months
    3. Clearly Show Your Contact Information
    4. Consider Investing In Trust Seals And Security Badges
    5. Captivate with attention grabbing headlines.

Some good advice here. I would add, take a look at popular memberships in your niche, as well as those run by big name IM'ers and see what elements they have in common, especially the way they structure and organize their sites.
