Bum Marketing Method and the math....

I know nothing yet, I admit it.

I was looking at bummarketingmethod.com and it says that every article you write will on the average earn $20/mo. It seems like someone without a job could write 10 articles a day x 20 days/mo = 200 articles/mo x $20 = $4,000. Plus it suggests that the articles will earn money for more than a month.

Is this even remotely reasonable acting on the relatively limited information provided by the site?

Thanks

Keith

  • depends on too many variables. An article can make more or less than that.

But that depends on how well your copy is, how good your resource box is, whether your topic is a buyer niche, whether your even ranking, whether someone picks up your article and also posts it elsewhere and many more.

Some you can control, others you can't.

Such as the ranking you can do something about, and the same with your copy and resource box. Its also down to you whether you do your niche research well.

But what you can't control is whether your articles will even be published at some article directories or whether other people re-publish it else where.

Then there's the most viewed and recently published sections and so forth.

You can't work out an average if you don't even know what the product is.

For example you might not make 20 average writing about music CDs and linking to amazon at a 4% commission etc.

*EDIT* I say this without having looked at the site your linking to. I just know that if it was that easily done then everyone would do it. period.

Here is a great article on someone who makes good money just by writing articles.

I think this will give you a clearer image of the possibilities of making money with this method.

There are way too many factors involved. I would say NO - it's not a reasonable expectation for a newbie to make $20 per article per month. In fact I'd say that is a very uncommon reality for most people starting out in IM.

It's mainly quantity that you are shooting for not just dollars per article. If you write 5 articles per day, that's 150 articles per month, and if they each make $1 per month that's 4500$ per month total.

The likely scenario is to keep writing articles every month because they are all not going to be money makers. Some will fail and some will be big hits with huge conversions.

Just remember, it all comes down to hard work. Do you think you can pull off writing that many articles?

I agree with much of what is above here... too many variables to consider. I've even had articles that don't do a think as far as bringing me traffic on one article directory and then it just takes off on one of the seemingly "inferior" directories that isn't even in the top 10 of most people's list of hot directories.

I also agree that quantities of quality information cleverly crafted to lead people to your offer is key. Miss on the title, quality of information, resource box OR the offer that you're sending folks to and you're probably not going to find the success that you might hope for.

I AM a big fan of bum marketing though... not necessarily the site originally posted by the OP, per se, but the method.

I think when Travis Sago wrote that it was possible to do close to that amount per article. But that's not been years ago. That's back when you could submit an article to EzineArticles and get 100s of views overnight without doing any seo work.

Granted you needed an amazing title and a decent article to convince people to click through to your site!

Article marketing is a great way to drive traffic and produce sales. But, it takes a lot more than 20 articles to get the type of results you are looking for.

Now, is it possible for an article to average $20? Yes. Is it possible for every single article you write average $20? Most likely not.

Once you get a lot of articles out there into circulation you'll start seeing the numbers go up but you need to understand that it is not going to start right away. You need to stay focused and take consistent action each and every day.

Plus, a lot of your success is going to be determined by the keyword research you do. It is the keywords that you target that determines your success.

I am a true bum marketer. It all sounds good, but from my experience it doesn't work that way. I have well over 200 articles floating around out there and I don't make that kind of money, I do earn a living though.

Article marketing is my main source as a bum marketer.

I have some articles that get tons of traffic and some that do hardly nothing. It is a lot of variables, the others are right. Keywords, quality, the product and the list goes on and on.

Is it possible to make good money like this, well yes it is. I see an increase every week so don't give up.

It all depends on the NICHE and your CONTENT and the TRAFFIC of the article site.

If your article is one that brings in the traffic, then yeah it can probably bring in about $20+ per day or every other day. (That's for a very good article). Other than that, you will get a conversion ratio of about 1:24 for some really good articles. I was able to get conversions of 1:10 for my highest traffic articles.

It is complete BS that any relative newbie will make that much from article posting. There are many factors that will affect your ROI on article writing and generally, the articles making that kind of money have a serious product behind it that is being touted. The only way to make money online (for the long haul) is by building a responsive opt-in list to market to.

I agree with you. A completely newb to the market won't make anything at all and will end up losing in the game. First, they won't know how to write a highly targeted article. Secondly, they won't know the power of opt in list. Those 2 facts alone would lead them to doom lol

I agreed with you right up to that point - that's also BS....

I don't do any email list marketing to speak of (hardly ever email my list) and I've been making money online for over 10 years.
Would I make more if I did more list marketing? - sure. But it is NOT the only way to make decent long term money.

What I like about list marketing is that even if your site get google slapped or anything you still have your list. I feel it is like printing money. You want some cash. Just write few emails and press send. You don't really have to go through all kind of website creation, keyword searching, link building etc etc.

Newbies.. don't get over-excited when you see a figure like that. Yeah it is really possible to make 20$ on average per article. But you need to work hard at beginning. You need to learn. You might be writing for weeks before getting your first sale. But if you do it consistently and properly results could be seen. Make you title catchy, use power words in them. and don't ever start writing an article without keyword research.

I do a lot of article marketing and I can tell you from experience that "no" it is not that easy to make money but you can make some money if you stick with it. I make a few $$ here and there but I have yet to have written one of those golden articles.

I like to write so I stay at it and hope someday to write a winner. If it were that easy wouldn't we all be doing more of it. I would make myself write for 8 hours a day if it worked that way. Just my 2 cents... gotta go write one now

Yeah as you start out in IM you should know that you should take all the claims that you will make x amount of money per month with a grain of salt

If you look around, it won't take long to find someone who will tell you that if you build a list, you 'should' make $1/subscriber/month.

The trick is, it isn't automatic and it isn't guaranteed.

Create a good, responsive list. Manage it well. Make valuable offers that make your list members want your next offer.

The same applies to article marketing. Maybe, if everything breaks the right way, you might be able to average some number of dollars per article per month for awhile. Just having X number of articles 'out there' does not guarantee you amke any amount of money...

I have to laugh when I hear everyone talking about the "old days". How long ago was that, exactly?

I have a couple of articles that gave me a lot of traffic - one was written 5 years ago - it's still getting page views even tho I sold the site almost 2 years ago.

The other was written almost 3 years ago and is still bringing in decent traffic. Am I making any money from it? Not really, but that's MY fault. Interesting informative article, but not much to sell. Great traffic booster, though!

    Howdy! Howdy!

    I Love EVERYONE'S opinion.

Bum Marketing should be updated...G-U-I-L-T-Y...yes! and it IS
    on my to-do list.

One reason I think it should be updated is because...

Bum Marketing has NEVER been easier.

There are sooooo many sites to chose from now.

from free press release sites, to Facebook Fanpages, to Video Bum Marketing using Youtube (easy peasy) and good ole' free classified sites STILL make sales every day for me and other fellow Bum Marketers.

    $20 an article?

    Is that possible?

    Of course...

It is even EASY...if...and that's a big if...

    You TARGET a HOT NICHE.

I know Bum Marketers right now getting THOUSANDS of views on topics
such as Call of Duty, Xbox Kinect, and other topics that ARE HOT RIGHT NOW.

I know Bum Marketers that make THOUSANDS every Halloween.

I've got affiliates who ONLY DO BUM MARKETING and earn 6 figures a year.

I recently sent out a video outlining the few things that she
    does.

    In a nutshell...

    She writes EVERYDAY.
She focuses on hot niches- People with BIG PROBLEMS.
She CARES about the people in the niche and writes CARING articles that deliver value.

I know it can be tough out there.

Especially when you're trying to get your head
around all of these new concepts.

And you will write A LOT of articles that do NOT earn
    diddly doop.

But if you follow the few simple guidelines I am
    laying out...

    along with your strike outs...

    You'll get on base.

    Start hitting doubles.

Then a triple now and again...

Then you'll swing one sunny day and blast it out
    of the park.

    Once you do that.

You start getting the feel for it.

    and your batting average improves.

    DRASTICALLY!

Then you'll KNOW that $20 average per article
is on the LOW END, once you got your groove going.

There is MORE TRAFFIC out there THAN EVER BEFORE.

Look at what is ALREADY SELLING LIKE CRAZY.

Investigate WHO AND WHY they are buying...and in a HELPFUL
    way...help them with a decision.

    Want a quick example?

My wife, Jeannie wants an electronic reader, there are so many
    to choose from.

One of her BIG buying criteria is she wants to read in bed without
disturbing me with LIGHT or the clickety clack of the keys.

I would find it really helpful if I could find and article that showed
me which reader would be best for bedtime reading.

    Follow?

There are folks making big money selling Nooks, Kindles and iPads...RIGHT NOW...

While we are scratching our heads wondering if this Internet Marketing thang works:-)

I say that as lovingly as I know how:-)

    Peace,
    Travis
