Still can't find a niche?

I have been looking for a long time now. Here is what I have tried:

1.) Market Samurai
2.) amazon
3.) Clickbank
4.) Ehow
5.) youtube
6.) Google trends
7.) previous warrior forum niche posts
8.) Ezine
9.) skype people

Just can't think of a niche. Am I being to picky? I spoke with my friend and we thought of one in 2 mins but thats his, (long story, prob going 50% 50% with work and profits on that one.) But I still want my own product, inside a niche But cannot think. Any niche ideas welcome? Any ways to find niche Ideas?

Nope, picking the right niche and keyword are the most important part to get success. Have you watched over all of market samurai tutorial videos? They literally tell you how to find a good niche in there lol

Going to the newsstand in some pharmacies, some grocery stores and department stores such as Walmart if there is one in your area and go through the magazines. You can find some great niches while browsing the stands.

        Wish you luck

No. You're looking in the wrong places, Tom.

Go down to your local big newsagent's and have a look through this month's magazines. See the titles of all the articles, and the range of subjects covered (perhaps ignoring "special Christmas stuff"). Every single one is a niche. Stop looking at "Market Samurai" and "Ezine" and what other marketers are doing, and think about what paying customers are spending their money on.

You're dead right, Alexa. I've found some great niches by doing exactly that. Best one was when a leading niche magazine from the US and one from Australia both promoted the same thing.

      Niches are everywhere.

Tom, this ^^^^ is good advice. It's basically the same strategy Jeremy Palmer (an IM guru I've worked with) recommends. Your first niche should be something that holds your interest, but if you have no marketable interests, pick something you want to learn more about.

Otherwise, you can always try to work in some evergreen niches (like acne, weight loss, relationships, etc.) with some less competitive ones (the ones that are supposed to be your interests or something you're knowledgeable in).

What is/was your profession? Is there any way you can turn the knowledge you already have into a niche? That's what I did. With one of my sites, I took my article writing knowledge and turned it into a site that helps others make money writing. Perhaps you could do something similar?

      ^^^ what she said...

Pay attention to what people are talking about, reading about, listening to and most importantly thinking about buying. Get offline and think outside the box. Don't just follow what everyone else is doing.

Think about how many people throughout history found truffles growing in the dirt and never gave it a thought - then someone decided to add a few slivers to their favorite dish and now it's worth hundreds of dollars per ounce.

Try going to Dummies(dot)com - this is the site for the company that produces all the "For Dummies" books. If they go to the trouble of producing a physical product and making tens of thousands of them - there must be a need right? Peruse the titles and I'm sure you'll find a niche in there.

Yes, you are - and you are trying to cover "everything" in looking for niches and that confuses you further.

You've started four threads in a month about "how to find a niche" - and have had almost 100 replies with great advice. Read those replies again and perhaps you'll get the "aha" moment.

Niches are everywhere - and there is no "perfect" niche. You choose the best you can and see how it goes.

    Hey Tom,

You are over thinking this...it's actually quite easy to find niches. Just go to Google and check out Google Trends...see what people are searching for. Then you can check the keyword stats for those searches to see how competitive the niche is.

    Thanks,
    Bruce

You're right man. To me, a niche is just something that I enjoy talking about. Except of course, I try and break it down. For every niche, there are always those little subcategories you can make into a site.

  • Really it depends on what you can afford to lose.

Are you tight on money or do you have money to drop?

If you can spend some money on a domain and some backlinking then I'd say just pick a few, work on them and see if they work, your bound to find a winner right?

That's what a lot have done anyway, its the trial and error process.

If you can't, use the free services available to you, such as blooger, hubpages, squidoo etc.....

If the main keywords you are looking to rank for take longer to rank for than you would want to run a test period for. Use some longer tail keywords with your primary keywords or heavily related keywords with low to medium search volume in order to see if the niche is viable.

Some people do their testing by dropping a $100 dollars in ppc, others do a few eZines and so on...

Choose which ever one sounds best to you.

EVERYTHING is a Niche (well.... almost)

What are you typing on? A computer. A computer has programs, software, hardware, accessories. There are computer mouses(mice?), laptops, desktops, mouse pads, screen cleaners, printers, fax machines, speakers, etc.

Is your computer at a desk? Is there a lamp? You could talk about lamps, pens, pencils, paper, office supplies, office chairs, etc.

What are you using to type? Your hands. Your hands could use WINTER GLOVES. There are winter hats, gloves, shoes, boots, earmuffs, scarves, etc. You hands could also use baseball gloves, football gloves, cleaning gloves, rings, jewelery, etc.

What are you wearing? A shirt (hopefully). There are funny shirts, cool shirts, shirts for women, shirts for men, t shirts, sweaters, long sleeve shirts, hoodies, ruffled shirts, etc.

Do you have a pet? Maybe you have a dog. What does a dog need? food, training, barking lessons. There are also different breeds, sizes, genders, color, age spans, etc.

Do you have a special lady in your life? Do you need relationship advice? Information on breaking up, cheating, staying together forever, getting an ex back, getting back at an ex, having a threesome :p, tell your parents/friends/coworkers you are gay, etc.

    My advice?
PICK SOMETHING THAT YOU ENJOY DOING.

Personally, I enjoy playing basketball. And yes, I do have a niche site about basketball.

    Do you like weaving?
    Gardening?
    Shooting pool?
    Playing darts?
    Overcoming boredness?
    Finding funny sites online?
    Sleeping?
    Doing nothing?
    Running?
    Eating?

It's actually quite easy coming up with a niche

Okay thanks and no I don't really have a budget....£150 to live on let alone internet marketing. I use hubpages at the moment as they are free and rank well.

This post was awesome to begin with, but the bolded part is the most true of it all. You can hop into any niche and go at it for a while. But if you don't enjoy what you're writing about then it won't be long before you're in the brink of insanity just thinking about writing your next article/blog post/etc.

First try a niche (any niche), even if you don't care much about it, and use a pen name with your promotions. If it doesn't work out for you, it won't be personal and you can move on to the next one.

Well, are you planning to launch physical product sites or digital product affiliate sites?

If you are looking for physical product niches, there are millions of them. Do you have a tool box at home? Great, look for sub niches of those. I have digital calipers in my tool chest, and I found a gazillion high search volume keywords involving digital calipers and digital micrometers (incl. long tail keywords) som of them are pretty expensive, and people are looking for specific brand names of high end digital calipers (thousands of searches per month, some of them are rankable with very low competition)

I can launch a bunch of amazon mini sites promoting those and some review sites preselling my amazon offers.

Look around the house, look at tools, toys, etc and go for small, obscure or very specific things (avoid broad, mainstream stuff).

For example people are searching for certain brands of underwater hd camcorders (I saw thousands of search vol for one of the exact phrase variations and it was in amazon best sellers list) there is no question they are mostly buying (especially in holiday season). Most people search for such specific stuff when they have already decided to buy and researching reviews, prices etc.

To me it sounds like you're overthinking this. Just pick a niche, test it out for a few weeks. If you see it's starting to make some progress, run with it. If you see it not making any progress then ditch it and buy another domain and start over. Like someone else said, it's all trial and error. Your one site is not going to be your one and only site.

    Tom,

The big list of stuff you posted isn't really a list of niches... it's a list of areas you've tried to market in.

If you're continually spinning, and continually posting the same question (according to Kay King above) then you're not taking the info to heart.

    STOP.

Take a deep breath and think about what you are interested in.

Then think about the problems in that area.

Think about solutions to those problems, starting with the ones that need to be solved the most critically.

Research (a little bit) solutions to those problems.

You have the general form for a product.

Research it to see if there truly are people that will buy before you get too in depth in research or start making the product, but you've got a problem and a solution. That's the basis of every good product out there, at least at the ground level.

Stop surfing the forums looking for ideas of what other people think are YOUR niche. Do that AFTER you've gotten off the ground.

If you're swimming in circles, pause and think about what you like to do... it'll come to you when you do. ;-)

    All success,

    Gary

Go to click bank, search under market under each and every topic until you find one that interests you and that many others are selling. That way you know it must be doing good if a lot of other people are promoting it. There are soooo many different info products there.

      Why

Sorry, but that simply doesn't follow at all. There are thousands of products on Clickbank that are promoted by enormous numbers of affiliates, have dreadful conversion-rates and low sales numbers. There are also other products promoted by absolutely tiny numbers of affiliates which have extremely high conversion rates and huge numbers of sales (and very low gravity figures).

The number of people promoting a product (not that it's technically available information, per se, anyway) is absolutely no guide at all!

Plus, the OP said he already tried Clickbank - so he'd probably just spin his wheels trying it again simply for the sake of trying.

How do you know badminton is not a good niche idea?

You say you play at a high level. Did you buy equipment? Pay for lessons? Buy special shoes or clothing?

Are you the only person in the world interested in competitive badminton? What about the high school kid who wants a sport on his CV when applying to colleges and doesn't want to get his brains beat in playing a contact sport?

Are there badminton clubs or facilities you could promote for a fee?

Stop thinking about finding a niche that sounds 'cool' on an IM forum, and grab one you can learn with. It doesn't have to be a decide-once-for-all-time decision. It's just something to get you moving...

    OK problem solved!

You want a niche yet want it to be popular and needed?

Well this is your answer. You want something which is new but something that nobody has but wants. You can take something which you feel is over used but popular and make it your niche as long as you have a angle on it no one has.

You take what you feel is popular and add you niche angle on it. That will get you there and I know it works as I have and still use this method

Tom when you are overthinking it, you just don't get anywhere. Take a break, clear your head and stop thinking about it altogether.

Last week I was looking for a new niche and just couldn't find anything at all. I went away and forgot about it and a couple of days later I came back and I was on Hubpages - not looking for a niche, just working on a new hub. Then I noticed the 'answers' section link and I clicked on it and as I was looking through some of the questions I saw a couple of questions and immediately thought 'hey that would be a good niche for the site I want to do'! Went and did the keyword research and it turned out to be a really good niche. I actually found a couple of different niches that day.

So when I was overthinking, I just couldn't think straight. When my head was clear, niches were jumping out at me!

Oh - try Hubpages answers section - great resource for finding niches

There are lots of buying customers in craft and hobby niches like remote controlled airplanes, cricut machines, edible ink printers, scrapbooking etc.

Amazon best sellers is a good indicator, you can pick the high ticket items from the sub-categories and build mini sites around those.

You are focused on "finding niches" when you should be looking at "evaluating niches you find".

I don't know how much farther you are - you started yet another thread abut niches while this one is going on. No one is going to tell you what their most profitable niches are - because they would be giving away profit.

Stop asking - and walk around your house and LOOK at things in the house. Furniture, chairs, cookware, appliances large and small, photos, artwork, carpet, tile, light fixture.

Here's what you need to do - take a notepad and pen and walk around your house and look at the items in the home - and start thinking up niches involving those items.

      Example:

Chairs - it's a niche but so are

      recliners
      rocking chairs
      children's chairs
      wicker chairs
      dining chairs
      wingback chairs
      lift chairs

Let your mind work on it and it will start to come to you. Just write down every "niche" you see and you'll begin to see niches everywhere you look.

Lol chairs is a niche....Chairs is a boring niche and could you please say stop asking? Its a forum where I want to ask relevant questions to internet marketing. Which includes niche selection.

Tom, this might be part of the trouble.

You seem more intent on finding THE perfect niche, the one that will both entertain you and make you rich before you're old enough to vote.

You keep on asking, and you keep getting the same kind of answers rather than what you really want to hear. So you ask again.

Eventually, the only people still answering you will be the ones who need their sigs seen, their post counts inflated or their products flogged. No one likes to think they're talking down a well, and you are quickly reaching that point with this whole "help me find a niche" thing.

See if your library has a copy of "The Millionaire Next Door" and read about the people who got rich in those "boring" niches.

I agree with what everyone else has said.

Think of something you like doing or hobby you enjoy doing. You don't need a burning passion for these things, just something that interests you.

Then consider if that niche profitable. It doesn't need to be the most profitable niche out there- just consider if it there are people buying things in this niche.

I agree with Alexa on checking out a newspaper or magazine. I've gotten a ton of niche and sub niche ideas just flipping through magazines at bookstores. I often look at some magazines and think "They have a magazine on that?" You would be surprised how profitable some of those small magazine on obscure topics are, that's why they still are selling.

Whatever you do, don't fall into the same trap I did. I ended up starting off in 2 niches I knew NOTHING about. I built websites around them and everything.

But also, don't overthink it as well. I'm glad I at least took action and went ahead. Definitely learned a lot.

To say the least, I don't enjoy working on them. Probably just going to leave them be and move on (maybe not, we'll see). Plus, it's really difficult talking to an audience you can't relate with. I'm sure veteran marketers can do this, but I sure as hell can't.

My advice is, to listen to Kay...and everyone else. You're really spinning your wheels here. Maybe suffering from information overload.

If you get so bogged down with reading/researching/trying to find the "perfect/fun/get-rich-quick" niche, you'll never actually get out there and do anything.

You said there's no money in badminton - and yeah, it may not be the next big thing or the highest commission items - but do you know enough to buy a domain, write 20 pages of small articles reviewing products (and add Amazon associates links), talking about the sport, etc. etc.? Is there a forum for badminton enthusiasts? If not, you could add one to your site, let it build up momentum and members. Build an authority site. What seems like just a little or "not enough" might add up to be quite more than you'd imagined, and it's a topic you'll enjoy writing about. Even if it's a small profit, it's still more than you're making spinning your wheels, right?

I say, either go with something you enjoy and can stick with writing about, or go with a very long tail keyword (like the chairs example) and realize that "boring" doesn't mean a darn thing if what you're after is making money. If you're really looking for a "glamorous" business to get into, my opinion is, IM isn't it.

If you have that much trouble, just buy micro niche finder and let it find niches for you.
