digital delivery help

I've got some stuff I would like to sell online. It's a few ebooks and MP3s and the size is about 170 mb or so. I also want the content secured as best I can, so originally I wanted to go with E-junkie and paypal. However, I notice that the $5 per month option only covers up to 50 mb while i have alot more than that. If i go with their $18 plan per month, I can host the files on my own server and what not.

Just wondering if maybe there was a better solution for deliverability out there and less cost to boot. What about hosting these files on my own host and use S3 and something like DLGuard for deliverability? Better options / easier options out there?

It's really only a few files and bonuses so don't want to go overboard. Give me your best digital delivery advice warriors. Best answer gets a nice 'thanks' from me and maybe even other members wondering the same.

These used to be a halfway decent app with a weird name, something like kiss or easy kiss download manager. I think it was like $19 bucks on paydotcom. I used it on a site a few years ago and it worked well. I don't even know if it's still around though. It might be worth looking into though.

I've had great experience with DLGaurd. Easy to setup, flawless operation, and reasonably priced. It sounds like it might be the best option for your situation.

Would Dl guard be best used with your own hosting and in conjunction with S3?

      Thanks.

with download guard or digital access pass, you can either host your own files or host them somewhere else

If you host your files elsewhere, you can only protect the page that has the link on it, and the link from amazon can still be passed around (not that that's likely).

BTW I would stay digital access pass offers the strongest protection between it and DLguard

          Hi Jusumax,

Just to clarify, if you use DLGuard with Amazon S3, the real location isn't revealed, and so people can't find the S3 link and pass it around.

I've also just finished a new S3 patch for DLGuard today (will be available in the next version, or now to DLGuard users who need it sooner) that'll integrate directly with S3, creating secure, authenticated links between the customer and S3 directly.

I'm not sure what you mean by DAP having stronger protection, because there aren't any security issues with DLGuard - did you hear something from someone? I like to try and answer rumours that are incorrect before they travel too far!

          cheers

DLGuard is a very easy to use and set up program I would go with that.

Really only 3 logical choices I would suggest:

Wishlist member (if you are looking for the simplest / most affordable solution and have wordpress)

If you're looking for something outside of wordpress, DLguard or Digital access pass. Digital access pass is the most flexable and expandable.. You can have a full blown member area (where members can download 20 items you have on one page), or you can even make people pay per individual download.

Digital access pass = most feature rich and expandable

DLguard = better support and easier to use

Really cant go wrong either way

So, you can take on the responsibility of product delivery, if you pay them three+ times as much... PER MONTH???? (hmmmm... 12 months @ $18 = $216, two years would be $432, etc.)

I'd love to suggest that you take a look at my own product, to manage sales, delivery, AND affiliate management...

but this sounds like you're planning a single "event", where you're just trying to make a few bucks from some things you have lying around - maybe just testing the waters. (not criticizing you -just want to make sure that you [and other readers] have thought through your longer-term goals, and the needs you may face for "phase 2")

Is this the beginnings of a new business, or just a firesale?

If the former, think about how that business would be structured, not only for the current set of products, but also for future products you might bring to market.

Do you want to rent your office space, so you can bail out if (or when) sales slow down, or do you want to own the infrastructure that will allow you to sell those products, as well as other products that you acquire in the future?

Secure delivery is only one of the many things you should be planning for.

Whether you need it today, or not... will you also need to deliver physical goods in the future?

Short term cost vs. long term costs are also a very important consideration. Does your solution carry on-going costs, that might be avoided by using a self-hosted solution, vs. using a service?

Do you want to leverage the value of affiliates to help sell your product(s)? or go it alone? Think about what sales channels you might use to increase traffic/sales beyond what you, yourself, can generate (the Warrior Forum is FULL of potential affiliates).

There are a lot of different aspects to any business - so if you're planning for more than just an "eBay auction" to clear out your attic, you owe it to yourself to look for a solution that will handle as many of those, as possible. And... at the lowest on-going cost.

    Hope this helps someone...

    @danthony,

    You may use...
    1) DigitalAccessPass.com (DAP) +
    2) S3MediaVault.com + S3 Account
    3) WordPress

... to do exactly what you're asking to do. You even get the S3 script for free along with the purchase of the multi-site license of DAP.

Or if you don't want the added cost of S3 bandwidth, and you are not exactly expecting thousands of people to be downloading your 170MB+ file at the same time, then you could simply host the files on your own web host, and DAP can protect local files too.

    So it now becomes...

    1) DAP
    2) WordPress

Plus when using DAP, you also get many additional features, like a built-in Shopping Cart, Affiliate Program, Email Autoresponder, ContentResponder, Email Broadcasting, etc.

    Hope this helps.

I have a site that I sell article packs on ie. 10 articles on tools or what ever. I need a product that wil allow me to sell multipal products at one time. Lets say they buy 5 different article packs how would DAP handle this? I am looking at a product called easy kiss paypal download manager. I like the affiliate program option with DAP. The site is not a membership site. I guess I will be only using the shopping cart feature with paypal and the affiliate program.

DAP will work very well for this scenario.

Set up one product in DAP for each product you wish to sell.

DAP also allows you to generate Paypal "Cart" buttons right from within the DAP Admin Dashboard. So if you have 10 products to sell, create 10 products in DAP, and then put 10 DAP-generated Paypal buttons on your sales page(s).

So visitor comes to your site, adds as many of those 10 products to the Paypal cart as they wish to purchase, and then checks out and pays via Paypal.

And Paypal pings DAP on your site via IPN. And DAP will give them access to just the products they've purchased.

And if an affiliate had referred that buyer to your site, then assuming you have set up commissions for those 10 products (or for as many as you wish to pay a commission for), then that affiliate will get credited for those purchases according to the commissions you have set up.

      Hope this helps.

        Hello,

Thanks for the info. I have a few more questions for you. Does the paypal cupon creator work with a business account from PayPal? I forgot my other question, I am sure once I hit send I will remember it?

I am watching avideo on your product located here: DAP v4.0 Beta — The DAP Blog

they show where you add products, but it says gold, silver etc. I see no place to put in an actual product. I will not be using the software for a membership site. I just want the abilty to sell multiple products to a customer using paypal and have a built in affiliate program.

    Hi danthony,

I'm Sam Stephens, the owner/developer of DLGuard.

The decision as to whether host the files locally or on S3 depends on what kind of hosting account you have.

At 175mb, your files aren't massive, and so often you'll find that your hosting bandwidth may cover it anyway.

In that case, you can just keep your files on your own website.

If you think bandwidth will become a problem, you can host on S3 - I actually just finished a new feature for DLGuard today that'll allow DLGuard to connect your customer directly to S3 securely, which means you don't use any of your own bandwidth for downloads.

If you'd like to discuss options, I'm happy to help!

    cheers

    Boy lots of questions.....

Can I apply a global discount? I want to be able to give a 10% discount to all products is this possibe?

On the affiliate side can you set it up so you can select all products and not just one at a time. for example in your traing video it shows gold membership only. If I have 500 products and want an affiliate to be able to earn on all 500 products can I do this with ease?

I did reply to this yesterday and say that we should probably not hijack this thread and make this an all-about-DAP post, and instead take the questions over to this other post which had all DAP related questions (the WSO is no longer active, so it's not like I'm promoting anything actually :-).

Not sure if someone deleted it? Wouldn't be the first time one of my posts got deleted around here for trying to do the right thing :-)

Anyway, trying it again. If it gets deleted again, we'll know for sure this time :-)

    Cheers!

I wrote a little script that password protects my digital software. When the user logs in to download it they must supply the email address they used to make the purchase if a user is logging in too often I get an alert to tell me.

It's only a basic script but does the job nicely to handle my files.
