How Can I Better Monetize This Niche?

Got a questions for your monetizing wizards and gurus.

I current have a niche that is getting between 500 and 800 uniques per day, but I only take in a small amount of adsense each month, relatively speaking of course. To give you a figure, I got just under 20,000 uniques for the month of November and I earned roughly $300. Not bad for a single niche, not at all, but speaking in terms of traffic I believe -- believe being the keyword here -- that I might be able to do better.

This particular niche -- has to do with headache treatments, cure, remedies -- doesn't have a lot in the way of "products" that I can promote. I've tried promoting headache and migraine remedy clickbank products, but I've had 0 success -- and I mean 0! I'm inclined to believe it could be due to the lack of "quality" headache products at CB, but I can't be certain.

That said, what can you think of to better monetize such a website? Should I just stick with adsense or should I try to find another, better converting headache product? Should I ditch adsense and move to another platform? Perhaps charge for banner placements?

I'm interested in all your opinions and thoughts. Worst case, I'll change nothing and remain content with what this niche is bringing in for me.

Thank You All.

-Sean

P.S. If you need more information, I'll be happy to provide what I can.

Make a free report, have them opt in to get it, and then back end them to a clickbank/e-junkie product.

If that is sucessful, spend your profits making your own ebook to sell them.

Once it is on autopilot move on to another niche!

This, but make sure that you have value to give them to - Also don't focus on only clickbank/e-junkie but Amazon as well. (In fact amazon might be a nice short term solution).

I can't really say more without knowing more about your site unfortunately.

Maybe price point is the issue. If you put together a short report that gave the solution and sold it for $7, and it converted for you then you might be able to do better. 1% conversion at $7 for you would mean $1400 a month.

If you haven't had luck with promoting Clickbank products, then you could create your own product or use Commission Junction to find hard goods to try to promote.

Or add some Amazon affiliate links to higher end stress and head-&-neck pain relief products.

Great ideas and tips. Thanks guys.

It's just a small 8 page informative website about headaches. Nothing fancy, just straight to the point information.

I never actually considered the amazon idea for this niche, that could actually work. Might put up one of those amazon carosuel widgets at the bottom of each article -- adsense is still at the top (above the fold).

As for writing a small report, I've never actually done that due to being "afraid" of not delivering good content. Most of my sites are information based so giving them information they can already get on my sites seems a bit redundant to me and it might even anger them if they see the same old stuff in the report as posted on my site. I mean my site already lists the best natural headache treatments, so I'm not even sure what I would even put in the report.

I've looked for a good CPA product, cause I'd think that'd be perfect, but I've come up with absolutely nothing. I'll keep searching.

    Keep the ideas coming! Thanks!

Seems to me that if you can prove your traffic and if your content is appropriate, you could:
    1) Sell advertising space
    2) Get a corporate sponsor
    3) Participate in a JV

There are always new supplement companies, and not-so-new ones that need to brand. You might do a little research on LinkedIn and see who you can find.

I would also think that selling subliminal/hypnosis products on an affiliate basis would be another monetization avenue.

  • focus on causes of headaches, maybe poor hydration, stress, lack of sleep, caffiene addiction/withdrawel, vitamin definiciency, spine/neck problems. then promote through amazon...
eye masks (light sensitive people trying to nap off a headache), water bottles/thermoses, vitamins, massagers, pillows, maybe an ebook on home chiropractic technique, maybe even coffe/caffiene supplements for those who havnt tried that...excedrin has caffiene for a reason

I'd change to what they are going to do anyway. Most likely they will go to a pain clinic or chiropractor. I'd set up my adsense so it is specific to location and have it run the ads for services. If they have severe headaches they will seek alternative treatment in town.

I believe you can still upscale your earnings. Make a list using your site and come up with a nice well researched ebook you can offer to them. You might also want to establish a membership site if you are really passionate about the niche.

It sounds like people in this niche are not spenders and are being offered many solutions for free without having to buy anything. It might be down to the lack of quality products to promote but you'd think if the niche was profitable for these kinds of products someone would have developed a great product aimed at the people within it.

Some markets just don't respond well to having to spend money!

How can you further monetize it? Well, you could do everything you can to improve your Adsense CTR for a start. I imagine you have done that already though.

What are other websites in the niche doing? How are they making money?

Perhaps a good "extra method" is to contact the top websites in your niche and offer to advertise their sites for them on you site.

Also, does this niche have any other interests you could potentially cross sell them on? Is it stress related headaches they are having, for example? You could promote a stress relief product to them. Are they headaches related to diet or some other lifestyle choice? Are they medically related?

I'm just throwing ideas out there the same way I try to tackle these problems when I encouter them.

And good job on the $300 in November, you must be doing something right!

How about finding products from Amazon to sell? Monetize with adsense too.

Have you looked for 'headache products' on Amazon? There's tons!

People trust and enjoy buying via Amazon. It should be a pretty easy sell.
