How many sites do you have?

As a serious affiliate marketer, how many sites do u have?
IMO, affiliate site is more like a theme park than a merchant shop, so for each site need to be very specific, to promote various niche and receive decent incomes, the marketer must build a lot of sites
On the other hands, more sites need more efforts to manage, so there will be 2 kind of strategies to take for promotion
A: Less sites, take more efforts on each site
B: More sites, take less efforts on each site
Which is the wise:p way? or as you know, how many sites have for some big name affiliate marketer
Appreciate your answer.

I started a few months back and have 2 sites, one is ranked at number one for its search term and gets only 750 searches a month, it was made for adsense but I wasn't getting enough clicks so I am going to make it into a review site.

And one at position 7 on page one for main keyword, basic affiliate site it gets 2900 searches per month.

If I could I would probably start off with more sites and then once I see which are performing best I would focus more on making them into larger sites, and just leave the smaller ones as they are.

I think both methods work so I can't say if one is better than the other. Some people do really well with just a couple of sites & others do equally well building multiple sites.

    For me – I'll be doing a bit of both A & B.

What I do is find a main keyword to optimise my site on & focus on getting that site to page one of Google ( at least the top 5 positions ).

Although my site will be optimised for a main keyword I find I get lots of traffic for other relevant keywords that I have not optimised for.

If you look at the screen shot below you can see that I'm getting traffic for 95 different keywords but I only optimised for one.

I just had a look at my Analyitics account as that screen shot was taken a while ago. My site has now received traffic from 235 keywords.

The more relevant content you have on a page, the more traffic you'll get to it from the search engines.

I focus my site around one main keyword which my home page is optimised for then I look at adding around 5 other pages that are based around the main keyword.

    For example.

My main home page keyword could be "best LCD TV"

I will then research keywords & competition for the rest of the pages on my sites that are based around the main keyword.

For example some other pages mite be.

    Page 1) Sony plasma TV
    Page 2) Samsung LCD TV
    Page 3) Panasonic TV
Page 4) Philips model 123 TV
Page 5) LG model 123 Plasma

Although it's a small site with only 5 pages, if you do the keyword & competition research right you could potentially have 5 pages on page one of Google for different buyer keywords. Google ranks pages, not just websites.

Also remember that your site will be pulling in traffic through lots of other long tail keywords that you have not optimised for.

So for me I like to build highly optimised medium sized sites but build quite a few of them. At the moment I have 4 sites & I plan to have maybe 20 or more by this time next year.

This really depends on your business model. If you're doing small review sites or adsense sites, you're going to have less than someone who is building autoblogs. Others monetize hubpages and don't have self-hosted sites at all.

OR, you could concentrate on list-building and just be driving everyone to your main blog or just a few targeted sites. So, # of sites doesn't translate into # of $$'s necessarily.

To answer your question, I have over 500. They are a mix of all of the above.
