Why are you an Internet Marketer?

I have been reading a great book by Simon Sinek and met him twice in November while at speaking events. It's call Start With Why, here is a clip from him speaking at TED Conference.

My question to you, is Why are you an Internet Marketer. Here is my Why....

I love to help individuals, small and large companies learn to leverage the power of the Internet to create leads and sales.

Why do you do what you do? To "make money" should not me part of your Why.

IM is a lot of hard work but it is still better than digging ditches.

I just love the whole process of IM. Researching niche ideas, finding the best keywords, finding the best domain name, building the website, filling it with quality content, driving targeted traffic to your offer. Repeat

There are a lot of different things you have to be.

      1. "detective"
      2. designer
      3. writer
      4. advertiser

      Best of luck,
      Justin

The only real skills I have are writing, sitting on my duff, surfing the web, and consuming heroic amounts of coffee.

So I pretty much had to find a way to make a living while kicking back at Starbucks, and this was it.

Sorry, making money is totally part of my why. That's simply the reality of things.

I got interested in it back when I thought I would have money and a stable life because I could earn extra money while being at home with my baby. I love technical and creative pursuits and this was a blend of both. I want my main site to be about helping people be the most beautiful they can be.

I have a problem with people saying they 'want to help people' in general as a whole business plan. Did you buy the clickbank product you're promoting to help someone? Then how do you know it will really help? Same with the Amazon product, or the Commission Junction...etc. Do you have the problem you're helping them with? Then you don't really know. See? On the surface it sounds nice, but you're really just taking an educated guess. It's better than nothing, but this isn't charity work. Unless you're experienced in a niche and it's your baby with your personalized expertise then it's a guess. That's fine! I've got nothing against that! I'm just saying that you're not some savior. I mean...the Hello Kitty niche isn't going to help anyone solve any problems. However, Hello Kitty freaks love Hello Kitty. It's crack. Trust me, I have the addiction. My Hello Kitty toaster isn't going to save my soul, but I love it!

I've stuck with IM because I have no other options. I see this as helping me get free of the hole I'm in. I've been out of work for a year, no job in sight, no child support, no help from the jerk who broke up with me WHILE HE WAS IN IRAQ IN EMAIL, said he's not getting a job and that's that. I can't even get anything in the divorce because I can't afford a lawyer. I need another lawyer because of some other stuff he's pulled against me.

So yes...IM is about money, plain and simple. Money, freedom and opportunity. What else am I to do when there isn't anything else I can do? I'm not going down that easily. I will fight to keep my head above water, then I will fight to make the best life I can make for me and my baby. I can't wait for the day that I can tell that you-know-what to go you-know-where.

Oh, and all you deployed or previously deployed guys and gals in the Military, you rock. You really do. I think my soon to be ex has PTSD but I can't help someone who won't admit to needing it. I stand behind the military and support them with all my heart and one jerk doesn't ruin that for me.

So...um...tl;dr - It's all about the Benjamins baby!

Why Bane is an Internet Marketer

When I was growing up, my mother used to always tell me, 'you know, Bane, you can do anything when you put your mind to it'. I'm sure it's a line that many of you have heard, but then the question is this?

For the amount of times you've heard that, how many times have you heard "don't be stupid" "No, that wouldn't work" "this is the best way of doing things"... that seething negativity that tells you that you must do your best to be normal, be like everyone else, do everything the same.

I remember my english teacher laughing at my apalling essay writing skills. I remember my drama teacher saying I had no life in acting. I remember being told a million times all the things I couldn't do, and all the ways I shouldn't do them.

But never once was I told why.

So that is why I am an Internet Marketer, because here I can create an idea, and build off of it, in much the same way a scientist hypothesises new theories. I can wake up in the middle of the night and have to quickly rush to the nearest computer, paper, whatever and write down a new method... and have it working by the end of next week.

I can stand on the cutting edge of a field, and look at all the people who are telling me what I am doing is wrong... and unlike my childhood where I would feel hurt, dejected, angry... I can simply smile and nod, knowing that I am exploring places in ways they wouldn't even begin to dream of.

I know that my products and idea have made differences to peoples lives, I know that I have changed the world, in some ways better, in some ways worse. I know that I have persuaded many people to see something beyond the simple pursuit of wealth.

Internet Marketing is not the art of Making Money.
Internet Marketing is the are of Solving Problems.

I'm very, very good at that.

My why is simple... for my children, and my family. I have 5 children, which have ranging special needs, I have two on the spectrum, one being tested for ADD and another that only those close to can even understand. I became an IM'er so I could be a mother, and raise my own children, and help them through their trials and tribulations, instead of having to depend on an institution to raise them.

I also became an IM'er because quite frankly, it allows me to utilize my skills to earn an income doing stuff I love, something I couldn't make ends meet with in the offline real job world.

And honestly, to help people. One of my first sites is still my most beloved sites, as it is setup to help educate people and help people with children or around children on the spectrum, live happier, healthier lives.

    That's my why.

I am an internet marketer because I want to have a part-time job. Internet Marketing is my means of escaping the real world of riding the early bus just to catch up with work. Internet marketing is a lot of fun as you use every part of your mind to plan, to create and decide.

IM offers me freedom in many different areas.

      ALSO

      I personally love systems.

IM is all about setting up successful systems that generate money for you without you always having to be there.

I also love the idea of not trading time for money. My time is limited, I'd rather have something set up and working FOR me...

While IM definitely has lots of upfront work(depends how you go about it) the rewards are far greater.

      Mark.

  • Geographical flexibility. I hated being chained to one office in one city. There's no best feeling than being able to pack up your passport, your credit card and your laptop and relocate wherever and whenever you want and, within 24 hours, you're back on business.

IM really provides opportunities that transcends local and state economies. Living in one of the worst states in the United States, I can confidently say that IM offers the best opportunities compared to what the current job market offers.

Plus, it feels good to add value worldwide and not just locally!

    Freedom!

I can go where I like.
Have the day off when I like.
    Get up when I like.
    Spend time with my family.
    Work on projects/niches I enjoy.

Plus no boss telling me what to do and having to go to him like a kid and ask "please sir can I have the day off" or "Please can I have a pay rise". If I want more money I just start another project/site or work more on the ones I have.

My life, on my terms and I wouldn't have it any other way...
