A bit of Advice... for Newbies???...

OK, so I was doing my normal stuff this afternoon, and working in Google's webmasters tool section, and two things occurred to me.

First, there's a LOT of valuable stuff here, basic stuff that helps your website make a better impression with google. Plus google shows you what they see on your site, how often they're crawling it, and all sorts of good stuff.

Secondly, I don't think I've ever seen The Google Webmasters Tools site mentioned on the Warrior Forum before. Even if it was, well, here's another heads up.

BTW, Google explains stuff like robots.txt, sitemaps.xml and a lot of other stuff that gets perhaps a bit mundane, but necessary nevertheless if you just happen to have a website or two in your possession.

  • I agree completely. Every time we launch a new website, we make sure to verify it, immediately, within Google Webmaster Tools. It's very easy to do from within your standard Google account under the Business Solutions link below the Google Search. You can track all of your sites from within a single Google account which makes it easy to manage.
  • Gotta make use of every tool out there, and this tool is definitely one of those that you should use. Quick and simple to use, as well as the fact that it provides you with some vital information about your website.

    • I just recently discovered Webmaster Tools. It really gives you a lot of good info about your site - and hey, it's free
  • Actually, this was part of the reason I posted this, when you're working on your sites, Newbies take note::: Google Webmasters Tools needs to be part of your 'grunt' work.

  • I was thinking the same thing! You can also create multiple sitemaps and submit them through google webmaster tools. It really is a hidden goldmine!
  • THANX FOR THE HEADSUP. I'LL TRY IT

    • That's all great but what exactly is Google friendly?
Wouldn't it be awsome if you could just lift the phone (remember that old fashioned communications device?) And call Mr Google and say "hey what the f**k is wrong with my site and why are you not indexing it?"

  • I have a site that isn't being indexed by google and says that robots txt unavailable. I don't have a robots txt as I don't have any pages that I don't want google to crawl.
    Don't figure.

    • You don't need a robots.txt file to get your site indexed.
  • I agree it is really helpful. I haven't visited that site for a while and will do a revisit soon...
