Which niche is better to produce for: fitness/exercise or diet?

Of the two big niches (fitness & exercise) OR (dieting & weight loss), which of the two do you think is best to produce products for?

They both have lots of customers, fitness videos are popular as are diets. If you had to choose one over the other, which do you think would have the best traffic, sales conversions for someone new in it, to make ebooks, article marketing, maybe videos and membership sites for?

Trying to decide.... thank you for your ideas.

Personally, I'd have a very strong preference, between the two, for diet/weight-loss rather than exercise/fitness, for two main reasons:-

    (i) They're both ultra-competitive, but I think diet/weight-loss is a far easier one for which to find "non-competitive/unorthodox ways into the market";

(ii) I know from former experience writing for clients that I can write syndicable articles and e-book products far more easily for "diet" than for "fitness" (knowing nothing about and having no interest in the latter).

No reason my own considerations should be relevant to anyone else, though, of course.

Which of the two do you actually know something about? Are you a dietitian or a personal trainer?

Just in my view, I'd think that Fitness would have a larger appeal...then a subset of those would be looking for information on diet.

      I couldn't disagree more.

More people are looking to 'lose weight' than 'get fit' (just look at google). Of course my view is completely subjective, but generally speaking people want to lose weight for a huge number of reasons as opposed to getting fit, this means products are easier to move, convert better, etc etc.

This is clearly and definitely the case.

That, in itself, doesn't necessarily make it a better market in which to compete, though, of course.

I'm not an expert on the two, but I would think people who want weightloss is more inclined to search help on the internet than fitness people.
          Good luck!

One of my niches is fitness trainers. They will consistently spend a lot for help with their clients, and there is almost no competiton for my products. Basically, the narrower you can target any niche or specialist, the less competition you will encounter.

Most people believe that in order to "lose weight", you need to exercise so I don't think you can assume all searches for "lose weight" are looking for diet information.

Even though you need both diet/exercise to efficiently lose weight/get in shape, just look at what's selling. There's far more money being spent in exercise as opposed to diets. P90x, exercise videos, Bowflex, gym memberships, etc.

Why not do both? Flip a coin to decide what to start with. Lots of money to be had in either.

Yep. Just looked in the mirror. Add one more thing to that resolutions list.

However, the fastest way to lose weight is to lift weights and get fit... curious how that works.

Yeah, I'm not sure how you can just say that all "lose weight" searchers are looking for diet information. Especially since if you asked a person "how do you lose weight", they'd say "Diet and exercise". At best, those are probably split between diet/fitness information.

But if you add up all the fitness gadgets, fitness DVDs, fitness books, and gym memberships. I'm assuming that it'd be larger than all the diet books and supplement sales.

Who knows though....both are pretty big I'm guessing.

Fitness means "work," while dieting can mean simply not eating certain foods. People are lazy. I'd go for the weight loss niche.
