Need Your Opinion on This Membership Idea

I have broken down my membership course into 7 modules. Now I was originally thinking that I would offer this as a 7 month continuity course at a monthly rate, then after the 7 months were up, the user would be auto enrolled into a lower monthly rate to keep access to the course as well as the forum.

However, this morning I was thinking about this and thought about a different way to go about it. What if I broke down the monthly fees by module. So you would be creating a monthly subscription for each module essentially. So month one your rate would be $1, then month 2 your rate would be $3, month 3 your rate is $5, etc. Rates are examples of course.

The user could have the option as to when to move onto month 2 content. So maybe they spend 2 months on module 1, so they just pay $1 per month, but only have access to module 1.

to me this gives the user some more sense of control over how quickly they need to go through the modules. I know in the past, I can't get through module 1 before module 2 comes open to me. Then I feel rushed to go through module 1 and may miss some key items, etc.

Just some thoughts I had this morning that I was hoping I could some feedback on. I guess I am asking is, Is there a "best" way to setup a continuity membership site?
