CC, first of all (and I know this won't help right now) I would be suing the repair place from last year, they are certainly liable for damages, replacement and most likely pain and suffering.

$600 (plus expenses) is definitely do-able, you should get some exposure to your WSO, through this thread, and I will send an email to my customers, some of them may be able to use your Toy PLR as content.

I'm sorry for your problem but I really think you are missing an opportunity here as a parent. You don't say what the ages of your other children are - but the 7 year old is a prize! So what do you want to teach her? That you keep spending even if a crisis takes the money you had? That you get what you want no matter what else happens?

You can find a way to make more money - you can go into debt to make sure Christmas doesn't suffer. Or you can make this a family problem and family solution where everyone lowers their expectations for Christmas because they know why it's necessary.

If your children are old enough to understand - you can delay part of Christmas and set a shopping day each month for the next three months where each child gets to choose a present (gives you time to save up).

You have a child who is smart enough to realize she can't always have it all. Don't take that knowledge away from her by pretending there's no problem. Don't work so hard to "make up to them" that you have no time to enjoy holiday preparations.

if you are sure it is the 'bad' repairman's responsibility, you can go to small court to sue them, and ask for compensation. it will cost you $50 to file the case, if you won, you can ask them for this $50.

This isn't what you want to hear, and I hope it doesn't sound like a heartless response - it's certainly not intended that way.

When we lie to children and trick them into believing that there is a Santa, the response your child gave you is so typical, that it really tears my gut out.

I'm not a Christmas grinch - but I am against lying to children, especially about the existence of a non-existent Santa. He doesn't exist. And he doesn't bring everything we want. We do have to buy stuff and we do have to pay for it! You have a good opportunity here to teach your children the difference between truth, myth and tradition. With a good bit of fiscal obligations and reality thrown in for good measure.

If you are church goers you will also have the sustaining faith to acknowledge some of the foundations of your basic reasons for attending church in the first place.

This may be the best Christmas your family will ever have.

I realize that this post will probably be deleted as soon as I post it. And again, I don't mean to be harsh. You were very blessed to have been home, and to not have to suffer the loss of life, OR the loss of your home.

Pull together as a family. Live the creeds you obviously follow if you go to church! Let your children help you work thought the solution to this problem! You can, and you will, work it out.

You don't need $600 dollars. You do need to sit down and have an honest talk with your children.

Ok, while I appreciate the responses on this thread and by PM and I know everyone has their opinions on Santa (LOL), that was not the point of what I was asking. We obviously all have our own traditions, and I respect everyone's rights to do what they feel is right for their families. I just ask that others respect that we have our own traditions in our family too.

Our kids are very thankful for whatever they receive for Christmas any year. Some years it is great, and others (since my job loss) have not always been so great. They are well rounded kids who work hard and serve others. I just want to make that very clear that we are a close family and this is not about disappointing them as much as wanting to just preserve they excitement this Christmas. Either way, we are thankful for each other and all that we have been blessed with.

I only posted at WF because I know there are many smart IMers here who might could have given me some idea I had not thought of. Forking out $600+ with less than 3 weeks til Christmas is a hard thing for my family right now. I was just looking for ideas and not really a critique of my family or holiday traditions.

I don't know how you can make $600 quickly, especially if you are tied up with previous obligations.

Take heart. I have a feeling your church family is going to come through for your family this time. I am sure you have paid it forward many times over when things were better. Now it is your turn.

Leverage your existing list and offer a ridiculous sale for existing products. Tiffany Dow did this with the now defunct Sponsored section. She offered $5 PLR for anything (even $52 items) and made a killing. Check her blog for details.

Buy new PLR in the WSO area, sell it to your list.

Offer discounted writing services to your existing clients for the new year. That is, if you charge $10/article, offer them a package at 25% off that can be redeemed starting on 01/01. If you explain the situation they'll understand.

Offer advanced, higher ticket writing services such as copywriting, ebook creation, etc. If you don't know it, offer it lower than normal while you learn.

If you are as disciplined with your cash as you seem then I would get a credit card or small loan despite how much you are against them. It will at least give you a safety net if you can't raise the money and don't want to dissapoint the kids - which is understandable.

Keep on the quest to get the money in cash but you at least won't fall short.

3 weeks is a quick turn around and a good challenge though.

If you have a church or organization that you belong to, or even your chamber of commerce, let them know that you do content creation/writing and what just happened. Any members who are business owners may need a newsletter that they're running behind on, a small info booklet, whatever. Sell all rights and no byline for $300. You only need 2 to tide you over.

Check to see if the local print shops will promote you as the go to writer to their customers for a commission, and if they would post a flyer in their establishment.

Got any good skills or abilities that you can market locally on Craigslist? That's the fastest way to make actual coin. But it can depend greatly on the skill you have. Good luck, it's tough out there and unfortunately it's only gonna get tougher... At least here in the U.S.

i was going to suggest ebay also as kay did. you can list an auction for 3, 5, or 7 days, or list it as a 'buy it now' fixed price. ebay still has the traffic and buyers. what to list?

anything! but used toys come to mind, children's used clothing, any used clothing.. especially a 'holiday' look if you have something doesn't fit anymore etc... just about anything.. you might try craigslist too. (tho i don't like it, but it's an idea in an emergency).

Be sure to use licensed HVAC professionals in the future. If the mistake is made to begin with, it's a lot easier to get the pro to come back out and fix it than "some guy that repairs stuff."

I would call the first repair guy and tell him that he needs to pay the $600 cost of fixing his mistakes. If there is resistance, tell him you will immediately file at small claims court and report him to authorities for working out of license.

He is probably your best bet at getting cash in hand before Christmas. That isn't what you want to hear, but if you don't know how to make $600 online in a couple weeks then you probably don't have enough time to develop the skills and actually do it.

Are your cards maxed out? Can you get a short term loan? Sell anything of value that you don't want anymore on eBay or CraigsList? Is there a temp or day labor firm in your area?

You can submit tons and tons of articles to associated content. Once you make $40 list a warrior special offer and offer every service you can do. Call local churches too. People call our church all the time and we hold a separate offering especially in situations like this. I would call churches and community centers and see if they are willing to do anything for you. You can also get a toys for tots type thing. You can sign up for instant pay affiliate programs and get paid instantly in your paypal. This would take work and promote it through bum marketing. Backlink free webpages promoting these items from article directories with high pr to get indexed as well as get some traffic. Also send quality articles to other article directories that pay you for views.

I absolutely agree with this. My childhood was filled with so many awesome Christmas memories and I have no idea why the people on here have such a big problem with parents letting their kids believe in Santa Claus. I really find it ballsy and inappropriate when people will try to tell someone else that they are raising their kids incorrectly. She is looking for help raising money not parenting advice.

Something I am doing to raise some money is getting some interviews together of a niche. Afterwards I plan on opening up a WSO to sell them, send to my current list as well as ask the marketers interviewed if they would be willing to do a 75/25 mailing for me. (They get 75% commissions).

I hope this suggestion, no matter how small, will give you an idea for raising the money required.

Oh i am sorry for the tragedy the fastest way you could make money according to me is through paydotcom which pays you instantly to your paypal email address so if you like it then pick a product to promote and then use adwords to drive traffic instantly to make quick fire sales.

As a mother of 5, my heart goes out to you. Especially at this time of year. And I don't think you should rob your children of their childhood by telling them Santa isn't real. Children these days deal with enough, leave the magic in their lives. Sounds like you are a wonderful mother, with well adjusted children, and even my 7 year old son has the same response to Christmas this year, don't worry mom, Santa will get my dragon (only thing he asked for this year, a small $10 lego dragon) so I totally know the tug at the heart that can be.

With that said, I think you've gotten great support in this thread. Get those sites listed on Flippa as well since they so graciously donated credits for you to be able to do it, the more eyes to the offer, the better.

I also think pro-rated your articles for delivery in January is a great idea as well.

Another route you may take is creating some article packs, and instead of limiting how many are sold, sell them real cheap, quantity will make up for the lower price. And depending on how good you are at writing and how quickly you can write you could have a few packs out before the end of the week. (Or shoot to launch it as a WSO on say Monday and write as many packs as possible till then and offer them all in one WSO)

Another possibility, and I know this one could suck, would be to go to a site like fivver and take on as much work as you possibly can get completed. 100 or so gigs and you'd be good, and even if you did 10-15 a day, you could still have it in time to do the christmas shopping.

Yet another possibility you could take is a method I am doing myself right now to try and make up a shortage of cash between now and Christmas, and that is creating as many small products as I can, and some of them I am interveiwing people in, and then getting them to promote it to their own lists for 50-75% commission. My portion may be smaller, but if I can get more people promoting it, I'm gonna do it.

Or you could try landing a ghostwriting job. This time last year I took one that paid $500, and it took me about a week to complete, but it was a significant chunk of cash quickly (I got half paid up front, half paid when delivered on.)

Ok here's my advice and tip....and trust me...it works!

Find someone in Craigslist, who is looking for website design, or SEO service. Usually small business owners. Contact and say that you will do it. They pay half first and half when job is done. Through PayPal, so you are all safe.

I'm sure you will find someone who will pay you around $2000 or so. If you decided to go with Website design, find someone here in WF who will do it for you. For very cheap price. Show the other guy "your portfolio" and ask more details. If he is happy...ask half money and pay your guy here in WF. Job done..hand it over...collect rest of the cash.

PS! Get yourself a plan. Write down all steps so things will go smooth.

PS! If you want to offer SEO services.... Instant Traffic Creation will do it for you. Just give them your customer's website. You will get before and after report from ITC, so you can show exactly how their site moved etc.


Both methods work very well. I have tested them before. Website design got me $1,700 profit in 1 week. SEO was $500 per client. Had 4 at the same time, so 2k for 1 month.

I am a little disappointed reading this thread and hearing people telling you 'not to lie' to your children by letting them believe in Santa and that you don't NEED $600 you just WANT it!

What a load of crock!

Christmas is such a special time for kids and if they believe in Santa then let them believe it! It is a magical time for them, it is fantastic to see their little faces when Santa has been. My kids are 12 (almost 13), 11 and 8 and this is the first year that my oldest hasn't believed in Santa. The other 2 still do and I will let them believe it as long as they can - because it's special!

The $600 isn't a WANT, it's a NEED, they need to get their fireplace repaired. So for those who are 'judging' instead of just giving some advice - which was what was asked, the OP never asked to be judged.

But if you really do need to judge - then look at it more clearly. This is a good family who's children are obviously not spoiled, and they deserve a little something at Christmas.

I guess you did "need" that money. My bad. I was thinking you had the money to pay for the repair but would not have any left over for presents.

I believe that this is an opportunity to teach your children the meaning of life, instead of suffering so much because you won't be able to buy the Christmas gifts you had the intention to. Tell them that this year their gift is their own life. Nobody died, and you didn't lose your house with the fire.

Tell them that all parents have to help Santa buy the gifts he spreads everywhere, otherwise their children won't receive their gifts on time, but only the next year. And, since you have to fix the damages caused by the fire, this year you won't be able to help Santa. So, your children will have to wait for next Christmas, and only then receive this year's gifts.

However, they must wait singing because they are alive.
