Screenshots made easy

a lot of you may already know this, but for those of you who don't - here's a great tip for taking screenshots... get Google's Chrome browser!

Chrome has a feature that allows you to take a screen shot of the viewable area or of the entire web page. Once you take your screenshot, it then brings your screenshot up in a simple editor. Then you can save the image directly to your hard drive. You can do all of this without ever leaving the browser - there's no need for any additional software.

There is one other feature and this one is a little scary. You can choose to EDIT the page your viewing before taking a screen shot. That's right! You can edit any of the copy on the screen and then save the image. Can anyone say fake Clickbank earnings screenshot?

Once you get Chrome installed (free from Google) - just click on the camera icon in the upper right toolbar. The first time you will have to install a plugin to enable the editing, but it only takes a few seconds. Enjoy!

There is no need for any softwares for taking screen shots, you can use print screen option on your keyboard then paste and edit it on paint.

That button is in the top row of my keyboard, to the right of the F12 key. I use it all the time. When you hit that button, whatever is showing on your monitor is captured and sent to your clipboard. Go to paint and hit paste.

this is true gtree, but the PrntScrn button can only capture the viewable screen. Plus, it also captures the whole screen, requiring you crop out the browser toolbars and such if you don't want that stuff in your shot.

Another feature I didn't mention - is that you can also post your screenshot to the web and share it via Facebook, Twitter or MySpace.

Forgive me for asking because I know this must be very simple but I am not a tech guy at all, where is the camera icon? I just downloaded google chrome but the only thing I see is the search box and to the right of that there is a wrench with a drop down menu with options and all of that.

    Any help?

    Thank you

If your installation of Chrome doesn't display the camera icon - just go to the following link and click install....

Why on Earth would this extension need to access my data on all websites and my browsing history?

I've been using it just about every day lately. Its a great addon.

Unlike many of the plugins for firefox this chrome addon also can print the image in full size view without saving after you have cropped and edited it.

Nice , didn't know you can do this with Chrome... can also do both with Firefox!

This one is very good for screenshots:

Firebug can do the editing - not just text, but anything to the html - even adding new images or replacing logos out.

A great free tool that not many people are aware of which allows you to take a user-defined screenshot of any area of your desktop/screen is the Jarte word processor - FREE Word Processor Based on Microsoft's WordPad Engine

It is a word processor that has a great screenshot utility built in, and it is almost as good as Snagit (a paid tool) for taking screenshots!

Windows Vista and Windows 7 both come with a very simple screen capture tool that allows you to cap an entire screen, drag a rectangle/square, or free-hand around whatever you want to capture. It's called Snipping Tool. Go to your start button and use the search feature: "Snipping Tool". It will pop right up.

That is a really great tool, the simplest and the best screen capture I've used so far. But the Chrome extension will let you do things like blur sensitive areas, and edit.

I use Snagit myself, but recently found the Windows Snipping Tool when helping someone else find a free screen capture app. They said it worked perfectly. It's under Accessories in the start menu.

Another way of doing this is to use the "Snipping Tool". It should be automatically installed on Vista/Windows 7. Just search for snipping tool in the start menu it's very easy to use.

A tip for you windows users: Alt+PrtScr will only copy the currently active window. If you don't want to have to crop it all yourself later like you would by pressing PrtScr alone.
