Forum Subscribers = Email optins? How to do it?

If you have a discussion forum, and want the new forum to subsribers to your LIST IN THAT NICHE, (seperate of the sign ups)

How would you do this? Send out an automatic email which gets sent when the user subscribes to the forum,

the automatic email could have an Optin link to join the List , with their Permission (stated in the email)

or have a seperate Aweber optin box at the Top of the forum?

or - other options? (please advise)

    Why don't you integrate the forum registration with list registration?

    On my WP blog (that has a forum) I use a plugin that adds a check box below the registration box that is automatically checked that says "receive newsletter also" and automatically adds them to my list.

      This. Although I would do some A/B Testing as to whether automatically checked or left blank converts better.
