Affiliate Application Denied

I get a laugh everytime some vendor denies my application to sell their product based on one of my web sites. It has to be the weakest and dumbest screening process in the world.

It was CJ this time, but the vendors there do it too. When you think about it, anyone and dazzle the reviewer with a fancy, targeted website by spending some time creating one that looks like the perfect affiliate. Smoke and mirrors, but not worth the effort. There are plenty of things to sell.

Yep, especially when you don't know what offer you are going to promote.
Or if you plan on ppc promoting.

Yeah it's the biggest pet peeve of all time with regards to affiliate networks... I really think a website shouldn't be required since there is PPC and Email marketing.

I am a member of Pepperjam Network and i have been declined every product i have applied for because they base it on the web site i signed up with.

    These companies are stupid

I hate getting these declines too. Basing the decision on one website is stupid. I guess this shows one of the benefits of networks like Clickbank.

I understand they are trying to ensure their products/offers are not promoted in a bad way, but the one website screening process seems crazy.

And, in those cases, do you also feel motivated to work extra hard to promote that competing product?

And, if I get rejected as an affiliate of a company I am a customer of, they lose a customer too.

Being from a specific country should not stop them for sure. The only reason I can see to deny someone is based on a past history of hijacking or spam. Looking at a website, or someone's address is not going to get that done. Affiliates can be quickly cut off if they don't follow the terms of service and the creatives are usually provided by the vendor, so I don't understand a denial.

Oh well., there are lots of things to sell. Their loss.

In CJ, you can add as many websites as you want.

So before applying for certain niche affiliate programs, you can have a similar niche website added to get approved.

Aren't they also famous for not paying commissions due?

I have never heard that, nor did I ever have a problem getting paid.

The one thing I did hear, and this may be what you got wind of, was that they were quite strict about their payment threshold AND about dumping affiliates who were inactive for a certain length of time (6 months, I believe.) When they dumped the inactives, they would not pay any accumulated commissions that were lower than the threshold.

I much prefer Google Affiliate Networks (formerly Performics) and Linkshare anyway these days.

Sometimes you just have to pick up the phone or e-mail the specific company's affiliate rep directly and let them know what your business model and intent is.

If it is a killer product that fits one of my niches, I will take the time to do that, and I get approved 99.99% of the time when I do, even if I have been denied by the "system".

I suspect a lot of these bozos may just approve or disapprove based on a script that reads meta tags- I don't think any humans are even involved much of the time, because I have had terrific niche sites denied for a *clearly* suitable product or promotion several times, and when I contacted the rep, they were at a total loss to explain why and approved me on the SPOT.

    So...If it's a great fit, with a great commish...make the call.

      Glenn:

If I think the products may sell well, I will try to appeal via email.
      However.. It doesn't always work.

      I simply move on.

      Or

SEO/PPC on keywords related to the said products, then pre-sell the visitors to products of competitors.

I have tried to apply to quite a few CPA networks and got accepted by just a few of them. What really sucks is that they usually don't tell you why the application was rejected. That's just bad business ethics IMHO.

"We don't want to do any business with you but we will not tell you why!"

Great! When I email them and politely ask "Could you please tell me why my application to join your CPA network was rejected?", they simply don't reply. Never. Childish...

Running a few affiliate programs myself has taught me to be strict with the screening process. Receiving hate mail saying, "I hate your screening process, I hate your company and I hate you " is a small price to pay when weeding out the probable spammers who'd get my company blacklisted.

    Hi Mike,

    I think he's referring to this -

    Commission Junction - Settlement Website

    Very brief summary -
    1) They contend that the defendants did not do enough to monitor the CJ Network for the use by third-parties of software programs that do not comply with CJ's Publisher Code of Conduct and are intended to steal or divert commissions from Publishers and Advertisers on CJ's Network ("Non-Compliant Software") or to monitor for or prevent third parties from engaging in the theft or "hijacking" of commissions from Advertisers and Publishers on CJ's Network.

    2) Defendants have agreed to the proposed settlement to avoid the threat and expense of years of further litigation.

    3) Defendants have agreed to pay $1,000,000 into a Common Fund

The funniest refusal I had was a chocolate company who refused me because my website Chocolate, Chocolate Treats, Chocolate Gifts, Recipes | Chocolate Blog wasn't relevant to the product. Yes, I did have it up and running before I applied.

Yes, i know the pain. I have to believe some of these folks must have gotten stung somehow. I recently applied to forex program and was turned down. The website I listed was a commercial printing website I own.

    Their loss.

It is their loss, because there are other affiliate programs who no better.
The clever ones will not reject you base on website since there is PPC.
