First attempt at an affiliate website

Hi guys, newbie here - both on the forum and to affiliate marketing

I work as an SEO and web designer, and have always chosen to sort of ignore affiliate marketing as I tend to associate it with spam. After meeting a few people that are earning decent money from being affiliates however, I realised that if you do it correctly you can actually succeed without spamming the entire internet.

I have put together a very small website focused around a few products (and one affiliate). I have no idea however, if I have taken anything like the right approach. Please take a look at shoppingbuddy .co .uk. My plan is to SEO each page in the hope of achieving good rankings for each product, and variants of those keywords.

All the copy if original and the pictures are (mostly) from the affiliate website. So far I've not made a penny (as expected) but I'm wondering if this site is even WORTH spending my time on. Thoughts?

    it doesn't look like you'll ever rank those pages with seo, they are light on content and not much to link too

    you might try sending paid traffic to them, and then split test to get the most clicks on your affiliate links

    to be a little more constructive

    why not make a buying guide, with the top 10 things to know before buying a (fill in the blank)

    or something useful to a visitor wanting to buy whats on the page.

    just saying, product x is this and get it here isn't really something you want to tell your friends about.

      thanks for your response, this is literally me dipping my toes in though hence the lack of content and so forth. I realise I need to put more effort into the actual pages and the site itself, but is this a good basis? Are you supposed to create pages around a single product and try to get the user to click through to the actual affiliate website?

    yes you are supposed to get people to click through on your links, but it doesn't matter if it's a single page around a single product or tons of product on a page, just make it useful and worthy of talking to and you'll do good

    for instance, "top 10 toys for boys this christmas" might have 10 different products but doesn't matter, it's useful for people, they might share it, and you get paid.

    that's how you make a page and not be a "spammer" like you talked about in your opening.

    I didn't see any meta=keywords. Your meta=description doesn't seem to be focused on any keyword phrase. Also, you might want to expand your use of alt tags on your pictures.

    The key to being successful with Affiliate Marketing is Driviing Traffic to your offers.

    thanks very much for your valuable feedback. i know the site could do with some MASSIVE improvements.

    My "real" website is opennetworking.co.uk which currently only has one ad on it, and you'll probably see a little more effort has gone into it
