Effect of social networking websites on google ranking

Hi,

Please can anyone tell me if the content posted on social network websites like facebook, myspace etc. has an impact on google ranking specifically. Social sites give direct traffic for sure and most of these social network sites allow clickable hyperlink and not anchor tags. so will these be better than article, pr and blog submissions? or is it anyway useful to do social media marketing if only done for google ranking purposes? because I am targeting only google ranking optimization.

    I'm not sure about the Google rankings, but you'll definitely get tons of traffic if you target the right group in the right way. But, I think Angela has an ebook that teaches you how to get on top of Google using Facebook, not sure about it though. Check it out. Social Media is becoming vastly popular because of it's ability to send traffic. Moreover, it's viral traffic.

    It can be. You can see that some comments are also showing up as you search online. But what I’m sure of is the blog comments posted online and forums are the common ways of increasing page rank because of its name and signature links.

    Facebook NOTES (page notes) show up in google.
    Facebook Pages show up in google
    Depends on if the links are dofollow links too

      just found that orkut scraps and facebook comments are not indexed by google. but I don't know if they count it as a measure of visibility as google claims they have 200 different signal for ranking but never disclose them. but definitely no visible indexing by google from social network.

      i think I have to stick with blogs, forums, article and pr etc. for google's kindness on me. However some of the keywords are highly competitive so was thinking of targeting social media for google rank manipulation.

        I just came with this article. I think I can give you some wonderful Ideas. Before that, Im going to answer about social networking can actually rank your sites.

        Yes, the more clicks you have then the search engine spider starts to crawl. Sooner or later you have a good ranking on google.

        But One think I would like to share. I think this is new or may be not. I think most of you already heard this technique.

        I called it PAD SUBMISSION... Have you heard that lately? Try also pad submission it will increase your search engine ranking. If you don't know what that means... just search on the youtube or try also google. It rocks!

          Yes I do PAD submissions but as the software sites do not allow anchor tags (and even clickable urls), the google keeps the targeted keywords at 20-30 ranks. till now article, blogs, pr and forums have been most effective for me and I have several keywords in top 10 because of that.

    One thing's for sure if you use a facebook try to customize the url so that you will have a better search engine ranking. Don't just use the default url it should be

    Example facebook.com/internet.marketing

    something like that.

    Just search on the youtube how to customize your facebook url...

        I think one thing I learn from my mentor. He told me that don't stuff your eggs in one basket.

        So try to be more creative not just facebook but there are many to choose from. Try also pad submission software or do search in google if you already heard about that...

        Try this one once you already customize the url of your facebook, try to use a third party application like twitter feed. Choose a related feed niche to your market.

        Then copy the feed to twitterfeed and syndicate it to your facebook account. Then make sure in your profile of your facebook you already put your backlinks on it to your site. That way the feeds will just automatically popping on your wall.

        So every time a fresh content appears on your wall, you will have a good search engine ranking. Not just on google but on its facebook search box too.

    Seems Google is making social more and more important. I reckon this means Twitter and other similar accounts will be essential in future.
    I believe social network sites do not have quality content that is why google ignores it. and that is why article and pr sites are the best for SERP
