My name's Omar... And I am a Domain ADDICT!!

Today, I finally realize I have a problem buying way too many domains, just because I have an idea for a great site or multiple sites...

An example: Just yesterday I bought 8 domains from Go Daddy because I wanted to do something new & cool, but today I look back and notice that it was the stupidest waste of money I've ever made (at least for now), because I have an even better idea to replace the one I had yesterday. lol.

So I stand here before you all, to admit to myself and to the world that I am a Domain ADDICT!

There! I said it! That feels good!

Thanks for letting me share!

~Omar

I know what you mean. I had to down size my domain list. At the moment I only have 115 domains with about 75% of them with a website now.

If I'm not going to create a website for my domains I won't buy it nowadays...

Thought I was a domain addict until I went to see a web design client and he referred me onto another guy, later found out this referral had just over 19,000 domains ...... feel like small fry now

Not too sure, I'm still trying to get a meeting arranged with this guy, he's pretty elusive by the sounds of things, dying to meet him, knowing my luck he'll be the next to post on here below me.

100+ domains is pretty manageable, you have to be a little bit organised though. I use a spreadsheet to track what stage each domain is at if I'm developing them (ranked / traffic / revenue), then when it comes to the renewal date I know straight away whether it's worth keeping or not.

haha. I guess I too would be considered a "Domain Addict", although I am not even a drop in the bucket close to 19k domains! However, I feel that if you can afford them, then yes purchase the thing. Think of it as internet real estate.

I had a weird coincidence a couple months back. Had this really awesome idea and headed to godaddy to check for the domain. It was available!! However, I put my idea on hold that day. Well, the next day, I decided to follow through with the domain purchase, only to find out that it had been bought the day before! (a quick whois search revealed this!) It must have been just HOURS after my initial search! Someone else across the country had the same idea, on the same day I imagine, and jumped at the opportunity.

I checked the domain a week later and they already had a complete website set up.... so good for them at least. It probably would have just sat in my godaddy account a couple months before I decided to start on the project.

Well to get to my point: If the opportunity exists and you can afford to take the risk (in this case $11/year), go for it.

        Just my 2 cents.

I actually had the same thing happen to me, ended up talking to a go daddy rep...

He said that every time you put a domain on hold (in your cart or if you just search for it without buying it), there are certain programs & services that allow "domain investors" to look through all those & buy them before you do...

          Trippy stuff, huh?

I've read lots of posts where people have accused Godaddy of buying the name and trying to sell it at a premium price. Has anyone had this happen to them?

I like to check out the name at a different place before I go to Godaddy to avoid anything like this.

            Omar,
If you want to make sure no one will snap your domain do your
domain availability through "http://www.internic.net/whois.html" (Obvious Not a link)
Anyhow, don't wait until the next day to register your domain.
You're not necessarily the only one that may have any particular domain name in mind...

Seems really shady to me. Definitely trippy! You almost feel like you had your idea stolen from you!

    HI OMAR!

hehe, I sometimes have a lot of awesome ideas that come one right after the other. What i do is I write them down in a notebook, then the next day I go back and reread my ideas, figure out which ones are the best, and then develop them on paper before I go and do anything with them. Then I pick one idea and stick with it until its finished.

I have more domains that I have time to work on, but I am a lot more careful when buying domains than I use to be. I will only buy a domain now when I've done a heap of niche and keyword research and ready to build a site on it straight away. Although I still have some that don't have sites created, from back in the days when I'd read a report and go buy 5 or 6 domains that I could use for that system. I would use 1 or 2 and that would be it - NO MORE, now I only buy one at a time usually and only if I'm prepared to start working on it straight away.

Yep, no-one can get any good .com names anymore because we're hiding them all

Heh, I can totally relate to this as well. Just opening up Market Samurai often leads to buying a few domains. It's super fun to do niche research and find awesome domains to purchase, but I can't bring myself to develop a site for each and every of the hundreds of domains I've bought. That actually takes some time, compared to clicking a few buttons and entering your credit card details .

I guess my New Year's resolution will be "less domains, more sites" )

I confess - im a domain addict too, and have been for many years! And loving every minute of it! With the right software, it isn't difficult to manage several thousand domains. But it's extremely expensive at renewal time, if you don't sell them quickly enough :-)

Well if you pick your domain names wisely, you can put them up on adsense for domains. You can at least get back your annual registration costs..a few bucks

      and btw, Domainaddict.com is taken
