Cutting edge website technology?

I have an ambitious idea for a multi-media website using audio, video, animation and maybe even CGI. The problem is I have no idea where to go for the resources, what to even look for.

Video is easy but instead of conventional video enclosed in a player I want interactive objects on my page to "come alive" and do things interactively in response to visitor clicks.

I'm sure it's possible but what do you use and what about compatibility? I checked into a flash website a while back and was told that only 85% of computers are flash-enabled.

That's not gonna cut it. I need 99% functionality.

    Forgive my bluntness, but only a very tiny fraction of the internet will ever discover your site.

    If you really think that you need to wait for 99% functionality to get started then you have already arrived at the finish line.

    Perhaps you need to rethink the numbers here.

    Thanks, Killer! But I already have good traffic and I would run the multi-media site parallel with the existing static site. Visitors could choose from a welcome screen.

    I'm not about to give up good SEO for a flash site!

    I think it's a lot more than 85% nowadays... I read more like 95-98%.
