Woot!

This is great - I think. We can all upload videos longer than 15 minutes now to YouTube!

I thought only recently it went to 15. Wonder just how long they can be now?

I'm assuming you're talking about YouTube. I thought the limit was 10 minutes, guess I'm a bit behind the times.

I'm indifferent to the max length allowed; you can put up a strong argument for breaking videos into small parts instead of showing one long one.

Really? What sort of strong argument is making a user click onto another video, thereby losing users every video? (and this shows on almost any sort of video split)

Sweet I just noticed the new (lack of a) time limit on my account.

I'm undecided on this issue. For one thing, I've watched a number of multi part videos, and if you look at the view count, each successive part drops usually 15-20% of the views.

That said, you can't force the user to hang around anyways, so even if you have everything in one longer video, you're likely just going to notice the attention drops off (check Insight) at a certain point. Going this route however affords a better insight into your viewer and their attention span.

I think part of the problem with the multi part videos is that some people honestly don't know or look for the successive parts to the video, and sometimes leave assuming that's all that was posted.

In terms of coming back to a video part way through, multi part is nice I guess, but with Youtube's streaming, you can pretty easily click to halfway through what you were watching and resume, even if you have to load the video again, so I don't really see that as much of an argument I guess.

Overall, I'm glad to have the additional flexibility now. Just another thing to test

No it's great news! I hope they roll it out across the board soon, my account is still at 15. Are you able to post unlimited length now, or is it restricted to like 20-25?

Oh man I thought it was everyone - I googled and saw lots of people got it so I assumed it was all.

It doesn't even SAY how long - I was wondering that too.

Tiff, this was posted on the YouTube blog today (my bold):

Up, Up and Away - Longer Videos For More Users

Your creativity isn't bound by a time limit, so why should your video uploads be? Back in July we raised the upload limit to 15 minutes for all users. Starting today, we'll begin allowing selected users with a history of complying with the YouTube Community Guidelines and our copyright rules to upload videos that are longer than 15 minutes.

So go find that movie you wrote and filmed last year and share it with the world! Or upload your son's championship high school basketball game or the insightful lecture you just gave on the emerging economics of green tech. As long as it's your original content, it's fair game regardless of length.

This launch has been made possible in part by the continued advances in our state-of-the-art Content ID system, as well as our other powerful tools for copyright owners. Over 1000 global partners use Content ID to manage their content on YouTube, including every major U.S. movie studio and music label. We remain as dedicated as ever to building and improving the most sophisticated technology in the world to help copyright owners protect their rights.

Just click the "Upload" button at the top of the site to see if your account qualifies. And remember, if you're uploading a video that was previously rejected for being too long, go into "My Videos" and delete the old video before uploading it again.

This is great news. It seems like they originally had the limit in place because of copyright concerns and issues, but since I'd assume that all of us are posting original content videos on Youtube, I'd think that we won't have any more issues uploading unlimited length videos from now on!

Sweet, now I can wait even longer for a video to upload :p.

Will this mean everyone recording webinars will be able to post them on Youtube?

Assuming that this is original content that we own the rights to, I see no reason why we shouldn't be able to do so.

I can see a whole lot more money being made out of webinars with this.

I guess you're not a partner...? I know partners had longer limits, but now regular users? That's pretty cool!

On the other hand, I have some 5-8 minute videos on there providing good consise info and draw in some good traffic... but even so, I still get a lot of "this video's too long" comments. haha Oh, well, Youtube is troll center I guess.

Shorter videos are definitely more popular but having the flexibility to upload a longer-length video would be great. Sometimes I have to create "part 1", "part 2" video series, etc.

    How great!Thanks Frank

I have always been leery of accepting any program (partn, etc) from YT.

They emailed me once saying one of my videos was eligible for profit sharing. So I happily accept - it was my most popular video - and the minute it's accepted, they delete it for being spammy!

ALL it was was me sitting there telling people 4 ways to make money with Squidoo. LOL

So I never accepted one of those again.

I think the 10 minute limit thing was good for me personally - I tend to blab a bit sometimes.

I don't know that increasing to 15 minutes will increase peoples attention spans.

As for the rest of the content in the original post, I'm really out of it! I had no idea I could post videos longer than 10 minutes on YouTube.

Most of the stuff I put up there lately was goofy, xtranormal.com clips. I'm still trying to figure out how to use it for my marketing -- never mind those GEICO ads:

i got this notice from YouTube recently as well once one of my vids went past 2,000 views.

My thought was: You have no idea what you have just unleashed! LOL

I'm a multi-media person so when I start doing webisodes that will be helpful; but for IM or spiritual equipping training vids that I do I don't think having it longer than a couple of minutes will be condusive to the video world.

Breaking up a topic in smaller bite size bits seems to be more effective.

Jonathan, if I'm typical, then one reason views go down on multi-part videos is that once I find the info I want, I quit watching. This is particularly true on how-to stuff.

Of course, I do the same thing with single part vids, but the view is already recorded...
