You are so right!

I spend many hours behind my pc.
My best ideas come from NOT sitting behind my pc.
Most of the time while I'm a sleep lol.
Totally different problem.

However i solved that by having my Ipad next to me, so I just put in all my thoughts there

Great post, On the very rare occasion when I leave my laptop, I feel rejuvenated and ready ready for the next 6 month stretch. I've been online for so long it's involuntary like a 6th sense or something. When I first started IM it was just for the money but now that I have a little, I won't go anywhere to spend it. What in hell is wrong with me?

So true. I have recently started a "No Media Day" when I do not turn on my computer, cell phone and radio and TV. I've rediscovered things like reading, walks in the mountains and conversations with my neighbors. I make my living in front of a computer screen, so unplugging for a day at a time has not been easy, but its been a renewing experience.

I agree. Most of my best ideas come to me at the times when I am not anywhere near my computer. You need to "get away" in order to keep your mind thinking fresh. Just be sure you have a way to remember those ideas when they come to you... write them down, save them in your phone, repeat them in your head, etc.

It's nice to have an area that you keep your work in, such as a home office, and leave the rest of the house for other aspects of your life. When you need to get away from work, it's much easier to leave it all behind.

I find when I'm not thinking about work, things can just come to me. It's nice to sit down with a book and read, take my mind off work, and if an idea comes to me, jot it down in a notebook or on my phone.

How many of you take a break every hour to exercise for 5 minutes?
I'm not trying to tell you what to do. Just a simple reminder that without

I agree with this, sitting for hours without moving anything but your fingers is bad for health! I'm not even 30 yet but I already have a back problem. Now I always spare some time to relax, exercise a bit, and go out once in a while, that's good for your health and your social life, you can't grow your social skill just by interacting with people online.

Great thoughts though. I have to remember to unplug sometimes because I spend an inordinate amount of time on my pc. It doesn't help that I work in IT either!

I actually feel guilty during the hours between 8 to 5 if I'm not working.

You make a good point Meharis, however I recently learned a new technique from Tony Schwartz (from the Energy Project - human energy) and what he suggests is that we work in 90 min intervals, then take a complete break (we're all pretty fortunate because we can take longer breaks due to our professions). Go for a brisk walk, take a power nap etc. etc. and you come back completely rejuvenated. I've been following his plan for the past few weeks and I've been getting a lot more work done and getting off the computer more. BTW I can't even remember who suggested him to me, but he's worked with a lot of major companies and what he does teach makes a lot of sense even though I was kind of like "oh yeah right" at first. He had an awesome webinar recently about this and wish I could share it, because it would give IM'ers great insight.

I am not affiliated with him in any way, so there's no pitch coming but I just thought it was a really insightful as to how our energy truly works.

This is sooo true and Sooo relevant. I can't tell you how many times I get attached to my laptop for hours on end. When you step away, you get time to get rejuvenated. Good stuff!

Making money online takes time. Staying on your computer until you make said sales isn't healthy to you. Do something else; go outside, visit family and friends, your site and your sales will still be there. Hogging your computer isn't going to increase your chances of making money.

Thanks for the advice...I need to do that since for the last few weeks I have been working in front of the computer for 14-16 hours a day and 7 days a week! I make sure and get 8 hours of sleep though...and do try to take a short break every couple of hours. But I think I need a longer break..maybe one whole day away from the computer so I dont get burnt out.

I totally agree with you there. I find that if I'm stuck at the computer too long, I lose my creativity and innovative ideas just cease to stop flowing after a while. All it takes to fix that is to go out shopping, running, swimming, or doing something else away from the computer. I think scientists have confirmed this too - that by disengaging the brain from constant activity at one task, you tend to get better, new ideas about that task you're disengaging from, and you actually get better at it.

I find I get some of my best ideas while "surfing" the net, i.e. reading forums such as the Warrior Forum, listening to webinars while doing other (relatively mindless) things that need doing, etc.

I have found it challenging to find people in my area who I can meet in person with and are roughly in my ability level or higher, so my mastermind sessions are currently done "surfing" online.

I know the feeling - same here. Nobody where I live (outside of a few family members who are in the same business) understands a thing I'm saying when I talk about what I do for a living.

I find I always have an awful lot of 'xplainin' to do when someone inquires about my income source...

Lol.. thought I'm the only one who feel this way, every time someone ask me what I do for a living I feel like.. "oh my god.. here we go again.." then I start explaining and he keep on asking and asking till he got tired.
Some of my neighbors even think that I don't have a job and live with my parents money! but I don't care as long as I don't have to explain anything to them

Preaching to the choir here. I take off every day to walk the dog -- sometimes I take off for 2 or more days to run around the wilderness. You'd be surprised the amount of ideas that will come to you while climbing the side of a mountain. Even when they don't, giving your brain a rest does more good that harm.
