ok i'm beginning work my Polciy right now. what is this policy required to include?

my blog will be an affiliate of Amazon so my site will not collect personal info/payment info, that will be done by Amazon. all mine is intended to do is route would-be buyers to Amazon.

can someone give me a down and dirty basic policy that will protect me and protect the customers?

All you really have to write is that you will receive a commission upon sale of a product.

You could also use a plugin called Easy Privacy Policy, which will create a privacy page with the click of a button.

What kind of information is collected on your site?

Do you use cookies? How are those cookies used?

What about the IPs of visitors? How is that data collected and used?

Does third party ads, banners or other content collect data when a visitor views your site? How is that data used?

Do you have a list? How will their eMail address be used?

Do any third party tools collect data on your site? What kind of access do they have to the data collected? How is that data used?

Do you sell, share or rent any collected data with anyone outside your business? What type of information may be disclosed to others?

Those are just the things I can think of at the moment that should be covered in a privacy policy.

I wrote mine and then had it reviewed and cleaned up by an attorney. In my opinion, that's the best thing to do rather than rely on some third party plugin that you cannot really be sure accurately reflects how data on your site is handled.

The most important thing, or one of them anyway, is that you adhere to your privacy policy. So, for example, if you say you don't sell personal information collected by the site, don't sell personal information collected by the site.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Get the advise of an Internet Lawyer!. If you can't afford one yet then visit a few high quality sites and look at they have in their privacy_policy that will give you a good idea of what is required.

apart from privacy_policy you should also chcek out what other "legal" type documents you need for your site, privacy_policy is not the only one!

I also use the Privacy Policy plug in. It works really well. There is also a disclosure policy plug in, if you are an affiliate but I wrote my own for that.

If you are using wordpress to make your site, there is a plugin for pre-written one page policy that you can use. Just search under plug ins and type in privacy policy. Hope that helps!

Exactly what is the importance of having a privacy policy? Apparently this is important, but I haven't done this... why are you supposed to?
