Wordpress Can Kiss My Behind.

I am getting so tired of wordpress and it breaking all the time.
Update a theme, update wordpress, then it all falls apart.
Restore from backup, all is well for a while, the kaboom.
I am so frustrated with the whole thing, think I'm going back to building
straight html sites again, so much easier. I depend on affiliate marketing for my income and at this rate I will be broke faster with wordpress sites, than I ever could with html sites..

Wow, What theme and plugins are you using, as in, anything unusual or customized?

I have been using wordpress as my CMS for over 2 1/2 years now, and have never has issues with it breaking or whatever.

have you tried experimenting with disabling some plugins, I know that sometimes it's just 1 plugin that will cause wordpress to stuff up, so it can be a case of trial and error, finding the culprit

Not sure what else i can suggest to help...

Same here, I've never, ever had a issue with WP which was WP's fault, always due to human (my own) errors.

I too have been using Wordpress for over 5 years now and have never experienced the problems you are having. You may be using a dud theme or some plugins that don't work well with each other.

The less plugins you can use, the better. I try to keep it simple and only use the ones that really add any value to the blog. All the others just slow things down and are not needed.

I agree. I don't know ho many WP sites I have done for myself and others. Could be many hundreds. I've never had the issues the OP mentions.

Hmnnn This sounds strange (not wishing to cause offence here, just don't understand) as one of the things I like about WP is that fact it is so brain dead simple to use and very hard to break.

Are you sure this might not just be a problem with one particualr theme and not WP in general?

Same here...I havent had any issues with it "breaking".

As some of the other posters said you probably need to check the theme you're using or the plugins.

This is the first time I've heard anyone say they have had these kinds of issues with it.

Good luck, hope it works out for you...eihter way you go!

I've had some problems with posts disappearing but nothing that I haven't been able to resolve with a google search.

Apart from that the only problems I've had has been conflicting plugins so I have learned that less is more with Wordpress.

I have hundreds of Wordpress blogs and don't have those problems. I use less rather than more plugins for speed of loading, but I also have complex membership plugins and everthing keeps on ticking.

I never upgrade Wordpress unless it has been out for some time. I let other people be the beta testers.

Generally I don't upgrade Wordpress either, but I have had a couple of occasions when I've done site transfers and run the backup on the new site and hit problems, then done an upgrade and it fixed the problems.

Just something worth trying if everything else has failed - might help might not!

The problem could be from theme, plugins conflict or incompatibility or not updating wordpress when you should.

Some old, unsupported themes could also result into this when you update wordpress, as they are not compatible with higher versions of wordpress.

Otherwise, it's not a usual problem.

I have actually had a lot of problems like this - before I switched to premium themes. I was building autoblogs with free themes and they were just too buggy. There are some really awesome niche-specific free themes out there but sometimes the trade-off isn't worth it.

After switching to Thesis, no more problems. not saying you need to switch to Thesis, but you may want to look at one of the premium customizable themes.

I use it for every thing, like sales pages, membership sites, forums and obviously blogs.

I'm tired to update components and Wordpress every day, but it's fundamental to have every component updated, to be protected and to run all the environment smoothly.

I guess my frustration came out last night just before I went to bed, but I am thinking any new sites that are sitting on the backburner to be built will be pure html sites.
I use all premium themes and keep plugins to a minimum, use hostgator, bluehost, and lunarpages, but still seem to have crummy luck.

Go to hit publish on a post and it has dissapeared, things are not where they are supposed to be on the page... I have even resorted to styling each post, in an html software then copy the html into wordpress...
Works really well but, just getting tired of it, html is so much easier and faster for me.
Nothing like logging into a wordpress site, and finding all post are gone, then having to repair the mysql tables thru phpmyadmin. Just frustrating...

          (bolding mine)
Ok, i have been a systems administrator for over 10 years (on linux systems), and i have to say that the only time i have had to repair tables is because of system issues, and not software ones. (data not getting entered is usally a no diskspace left issue)
<tech speak> table damage in mysql is generally caused when the server or mysql crashes while the table data is in memory and hasn't been written to disk, This mainly happens when the server runs out of space, to the db cant write the data to the hard drive, then crashes because there is no space<end tech speak>

I have word press on over 100 blogs currently, the issues i have had are in-between modules conflicting with each other. The main ones i have issues are wp2pingfm and wb robot3, both enabled and wordpress has a fizz, have to disable one for either to work.

I would highly suggest you figure out the sites you are having issues on, and track them, and work out what server(s) they are on, i'm going to take a guess they are all on the same 1-2 servers (or on servers with the same company), if so - move them asap and your problems will stop.

If you can build pure html, go for it... I'm a notepad purist FWIW.

Have used WP without any issues thoug - seems if you are losing all your posts, that's an issue with your host or security with your mysql database IMHO.

Hope you find a path that's happier.

It is probably a theme related issue, try to change your theme. Have you done any customization or coding to your current theme? because it can be one of the hand coding/customization issues that went wrong. If it is not your theme or plugins incompatibility, it could be some sort of bug, try to update your content using a different kind of browser

What theme are you using? I only use the the "regular" Twenty Ten 1.1. theme. It's very flexible and you can customize the graphics to fit your niche. It's also very user-friendly and easy to use. It also supports RTL languages it you want to make the site multilingual. I tried other themes and many of them caused the kind of problems you described.

    ^^^ This.

WordPress is a royal pain. All the constant upgrades and the increased vulnerability to hacking.

Not too mention it's a piece of bloatware. It takes up a whole lot of hard drive space. On a small site, WordPress will tie up much more space than the content. If you're doing a lot of websites, you're just wasting a whole ton of disk space with WordPress bloat.

The only time I've had something like this happen was when I was converting a client's HTML site to Wordpress. The original static site was a complete mess.

I cleaned all the pages up as much as I could and then imported them into Wordpress. There were a couple of pages where the content of the post just completely disappeared. The post was there, just no content. I went through it line by line and it was just some character combination that was causing it, there was no HTML code in the post itself. I don't know if that is the same situation you are talking about.

Other than that, if you install the TinyMCE plugin it will give you a lot more control over styling your posts because you can set it so it won't strip out your formatting.

Wordpress is push button easy but the headache is actually in finding the exact theme you want to use. Many of the themes are "set" so if you want to work with the visual side of your site it would be easier to use website builders like dreamweaver.

Wordpress usually runs like a top. I use free themes and multiple plug-ins.

You may have to make some adjustments in your hosting c-panel. That would be my guess. PHP and Cron... I would need to know more.

Maybe you are getting hacked? Their are ways of easily checking that out.

I agree that Wordpress is a pain in the neck sometimes but I think its benefits outweigh any of its disadvantages/drawbacks. I find that my Wordpress sites have more SEO benefits than my plain HTML sites. My Wordpress posts and pages are indexed faster by Google and they appear to be highly ranked in some long-tail keywords. It could be because of the SEO plugins or the instant pinging each time I post/update.

What I don't like about Wordpress is their frequent updates to a new version. It seems that every month or so they come up with a newer version. Some Wordpress plugins I use may not be compatible with the latest version, and I have to deactivate each and every plugin before updating to the latest version of Wordpress.

Oftentimes a plugin is incompatible with the latest version of WP and I get that nasty "white screen" - my website/blog becomes nothing but a white empty page. So I have to go to the installed plugins page and look for the culprit - not an easy task if I have dozens of plugins!

So my advice is to use only those plugins that are essential to your website. Avoid the temptation to install plugins that add more bells and whistles but are not important for your business.

I've very rarely had Wordpress "break" on me, and every single time it did, it could be traced back to outdated plugins that were not compatible with the current version of Wordpress.

Have you tried to get to the root cause of your issue? Do you know what's causing it to break? More likely than not, it's just a simple plugin issue, as you seem to be indicating that this happens whenever you upgrade to a new version of Wordpress.

I was having a problem with one Wordpress website. Every time I upgraded the website would take a dump. I found out it was because I had an old plugin called Wordpress Upgrade that was still active. Once I got rid of the Wordpress upgrade Plugin the website has been running smooth without any update problems.

True that html sites are basically set and forget
but with all the added functionalities that come with
wordpress re plugins, themes, widgets, etc, it's
    worth the extra trouble,

Weird, I have used WP for years without any issues. Just have to keep on top of updates.

Wordpress has speed up my work and have zero problems with it. Before I install any new plugins, I check it online to make sure it doesn't have any bad reviews.

Very, very few occasions where something was "breaking", it was always some oddly coded 3rd party theme. Dont blame wordpress.

WordPress fits all my needs, I've never heard of that happening. What themes or plugins are you using? I think it is a plugin error because that is usually the result of these errors.
