Move HTML site to Wordpress

Has anyone transferred a HTML site to a wordpress site before? I would like to do this, but of course do not want it to affect the ranking or page rank, is this possible?

    I havent done that. I dont think it will affect you ranking unless and until you keep all the seo factors the same.
    eg. if you have an url in old site, make sure when it comes to WP also, you have the same URLs. set titles, keywords, descripion same. You may see a drop down when you change, but do to backlinks, it eventually will come up.

    It can be very easy or very difficult... depending on what you want.

    If you need to keep the design/look of the old site - you need somebody to make a WP theme based on that. Then transfer the content.

    If you just want to transfer the content into a WP site - that should be way easier.
    Depending on your old site's structure, you may or may not be able to re-create the URLs. However, a good .htaccess file can help with that, too.

    The site only has about 15 pages, I am pretty lazy and either way I think its probably going to be too much effort matching it all up the same, ie meta tags, page names ..... I tell you what since wordpress I just cant be bothered updating any of my older HTML sites, and on top of that google just loves wordpress... May just sell the sites of, or leave them go... Thanks for your advice anyway.

      Well, it's your call...

      15 pages should be a breeze - if you don't need the old design.
      Meta tags and page names shouldn't be a problem in this case, based on what you said.

      FYI: G. doesn't love WordPress per se; that's a myth. Like all search engines, G. loves regularly updated sites!

    I take it you are talking about moving to a WP that you host. Given all of the advantages of WP I would think you would improve your SEO. Moving to WP is simple, and you can make it look just like a static site. If you do not tell a person that the site is WP they will never know it. I have a site the title it Instant Niche and it is a WP site. Have a look.

    I've moved a website from static to a CMS (Drupal, in this case) - and it's well over 100 pages...

    I changed all the page names - but used 301 redirects so I wouldn't lose any ranking or traffic.

    It took time, but everything went just fine.

    Now I'm thinking about moving the site again - and putting it on Wordpress - which I prefer nowadays. If only I can find the time...

    I'm not sure if Warrior John King (Turbo Flex Pro Theme Master) still has his WSO on offer. I am a only a recent customer, not an affiliate (not even sure he has an affiliate program for it) and can recommend that you visit the website for 3 very interesting demo videos. Try putting "John King" or "Turbo Flex Pro" in the search field inside the forum ... you will be pleased with how quickly you can have a WP site to mimic your static html site. From my understanding of it, you're only going to copy over the template of the site into a WP blog theme. It doesn't copy over the content. You will have to put your own blog content in.

    If you're going to get it, act fast. John says he'll soon be taking it down. By the way, it comes with some nifty bonuses, too.

    Why do you want to change the platform? If it's only 15 pages and you are only doing minimal updates, I'd leave it. I don't see how switching over to Wordpress will save you any time in that regard.

    If you want to do it because you think you'll move up in the serps, not gonna happen. Goog loves those worpress sites, as already stated because of new content. It may also appear to others that is the case with quick indexing, but those posts and pages are pinged immediately where static website pages are not.

    If you are wanting to continually add to the site, that's a different matter. For such a small site, it would be worth the time to switch it over.

    Yes, it can be done. I have done it. (But am now going in the opposite direction.) The smaller the site, the easier it gets.

    If any URLs change, set up 301 redirects so the rankings will pass to their new URLs.
