Newbie with some questions!

Hello all, I am fairly new to IM and am looking forward to what the coming months will (hopefully) bring! I have a few questions, which I'm sure are simple, but could use some help clearing up. First I acquired 3 sites via flippa for fairly cheap, the sellers were all highly rated and part of the deal was them doing a lot of the SEO work/backlinking, and to help me through the overall process and learn so that I could start doing IM on my own. The sites use adsense and amazon. Now here are my questions!

1) The sites have been up and running for less than a week, the one site has 73 visitors, and the other two have 11 and 8, the one with 73 has been up a little longer. Is this good? How much traffic would be considered "acceptable" for the first month?

2) My amazon account says that I have 898 "other clicks" what does this mean exactly?

3) I have made $2.18 for 5 clicks via adsense so far which I know is nothing crazy, my goal for adsense is to make $75 over a 3 month period, is this a reasonable/attainable goal? Should I set the bar lower or higher?

Thanks! I realize these questions are somewhat open ended and that responses will vary, but I'm just looking to get some insight. =)

Don't worry too much about your traffic in the first couple of weeks, or even couple of months. Focus on the process! You'll drive yourself nuts checking Analytics and Adsense earnings every day (or more!)

So to answer your questions, you traffic is fine. Your adsense earnings are good because it indicates you are not stuck in a niche where clicks earn 3 cents or something. Your goal of $75 in 3 months is easy, you should blow that away if you are putting in plenty of hard work and following good advice.

A better plan is to set goals for creating content or backlinks, and let the adsense earnings happen. Are you building a list yet?

Thanks man, and yeah I realized the other day that checking adsense and analytics everyday can drive you crazy haha. As far as backlinking goes, the person I bought the site from is taking care of the backlinking for the most part, but I have been writing content which I will post in the next week hopefully.

I'm defiantly enjoying it man! Its kind of exciting, I'm a college student and I'm just doing this for some discretionary income, but its starting to really interest me so who knows where it'll go! No plans of giving up either!

I would not rely on the SEO work of the company that you bought the sites from, unless the sites were expensive.

Building backlinks is a lot of work. Most likely you did not pay a lot of money for the sites. That means the company or individual can only throw in a standard bunch of easy backlinks, which will most likely not do you any good.

While it is true that SEO works takes a long time, it is also true that newbies are often mislead. There are many "reputable" companies on flippa selling basically worthless crap for $100 to $300 all day long.

You can buy one of those sites, if you like the design. But if you expect to make money without doing any additional work, you will wait in vain.

I agree 100%, there is a lot of crap floating around on flippa, but I had a friend who is fairly well-versed in IM check out the sites and he thought they looked solid. The guy also offered a buy-back guarentee, so if its not working out by march, I get a full refund. So it was worth a try imo.

On a side note anyone care to comment on what "other clicks" means for amazon affiliates?

    1. Any amount of traffic is good if this is your first time building a website. Just keep promoting your website with good content and backlinking.

    2. From Amazon: In the summary at the bottom of the report, you may see a number of "Other Clicks." These are clicks from other link types, including links to the home page, links to search results, recommended product links, and links to the main landing page for each product category. Use the Link-Type Report to see how each link type is performing for your Web site.

    3. Yes, it is! You just have to keep at it.

    Good Luck!
