10 Ways To Get Free Traffic To Your Website Or Blog

Hi Guys..

Here are 10 ways to get traffic to your Website or Blog for FREE
Article Marketing is pretty cool, I haven't done too much of it so I haven't added to the list yet..

1) Create a SQUIDOO lens. Get FREE traffic by linking your Squidoo lens back to your Website or Blog. You can do this by adding your articles, then adding appropriate links.

You can also add your Website's RSS feed to your Squidoo Lens. Create as many free lenses as you want and even add your affiliate banners and links to them.

I use Squidoo's revenue share system by adding their Amazon & eBay modules for a 50/50 commission split. You will also receive commission on their Google Adsense ads. You can of course add your own links to Amazon & eBay & you can add links to your PPC & CPA offers if you wish. Overall, Squidoo lenses rank quite well on Google, If you optimize them properly with lots of good quality keywords.

Don't forget to include your keyword in the title of your lens.. You can also add as many tags to each lens as you want - Score 10/10

2) Facebook Fan/Like Page -Traffic Swaps - Nowadays you can exchange just about anything, traffic is no exception. I'm not talking about untargeted traffic through dubious Ad schemes. I'm talking about contacting the owners of similar Facebook Fan/Like Pages or groups and offering to mention their Fan Pages either/or on your own personal wall or on your own Fan Page.

Also you can mention their Fan page to your Facebook friends in exchange for them doing exactly the same. Always set your Fan Page Welcome tab to default view - this should contain your list opt-in details. A perfect way to get targeted traffic, all for free. Score 9/10

3) Blog Sharing - You can syndicate your Blog to automatically appear on Facebook whenever you publish a post, this is done through a free system called Networked Blogs - your post can also be syndicated to your Facebook Fan/Like page, old style Facebook Group & your twitter accounts.

When Network Blogs syndicate this, this will create an instant burst of traffic to your Blog as it will appear on your wall - for all your Facebook friends to see. You will also go viral as viewers through networked Blogs are given the option to share, comment, vote or tweet it on Twitter. Score 9/10

4) YouTube - Video Marketing. Creating free videos that have useful content is a great way for creating a viral traffic share system. what I mean by this is if you create a useful video, for example - "How to Clean Up Your Desktop - people can relate to this video, as plenty of people have messy desktops.

They will find the information in the video useful and pass it on if, actively encouraged to do so. How do you encourage people to do this for you?

a) Provide great, USEFUL content.

b) ASK Them to pass it on... yes, believe me this works. If you use Camtasia, put a slide in the last few frames of the video saying something like "If you found this Video useful, why not pass it on, I'm sure your friends would love to know how to " Keep their desktops clean", or whatever it is you make your video about.

Don't forget to include a visual link to your website in the last few frames (if you have Camtasia) and a click-able link on You Tube to show underneath the video (very important).

If you don't have Camtasia, don't worry - I have made over 30 videos just using a cheap FLIP Camcorder just speak the words... "If you found this video useful, please share this video with your friends", into your camcorder, in the last few seconds.

Put your videos on You Tube & Facebook, also share on other Social Networks including the many video sharing sites. Score. 8/10.

5) Guest Blogging - Find highly ranked, high traffic Blogs (Check Alexa) in your Niche, contact the owners and ask them if you can submit a Blog post, tell them how beneficial your unique content will be to their readers...

By the way, we use Guest Bloggers all the time. It's good for us as we have many varied articles by different authors, and it's good for the person who guest Blogs as they get links back to their Website or Blog. Score 8/10

6) Forum Marketing - This is often overlooked as a viable traffic method but when used correctly can bring you almost INSTANT results.. Offering USEFUL advice in reply to a person's post in a thread that you have some working knowledge of can, providing you have a click-able signature set up - produce another great source of free traffic, especially when used in high traffic forums such as the Warrior Forum.

Don't just post a simple "good post" in reply to a post. - actually try to solve the person's problem, this will also attract comments to your reply, just keep replying to the replies and the thread will grow & grow and the views to your signature will follow suit. Score 7/10

7) Blog Commenting - Again, go for high traffic Blogs, post useful comments in reply to a specific post. Your replies should offer a good insight into the content of the original post. use good keywords in your reply .

Leave your website address in the post & comment regularly. If your comments are useful, the blog owner may end up contacting you in the end to act as a guest Blogger.. Keep the comments coming, people love comments, if they are good - people will click your link and want to know more about you. Score 7/10

8) Create FREE Reports & Give them Away. create a free report on an in demand topic, this could be a short report of just a couple of pages or more. Convert it into a pdf file (read with adobe), and share it.

By creating free reports of value and linking them back to your Web Page or Blog, you will get traffic, you can also encourage people to share your free report with friends via email. I do this with free reports containing affiliate links, it does work. Score 7/10

9) Only Wire - I use Only Wire to distribute my Articles, Videos & Blog posts. Only Wire is a down-loadable submission tool which is free and you can submit your content to up to 42 different Social Network sites in a matter of seconds (you need to join the sites you want to submit to) - Score 7/10

10) Link Exchange - Approach the owners of high traffic Blogs & Websites to exchange links with you. They can only say no. Some will, some won't. You never know if you don't try. Score 7/10

All the best

Keith

great post buddy! Not really used only wire as yet! have you thought about branding your tweets with your website link?!

I get a tonne of traffic from that! works very muck like tweetdeck but instead of going to their own sites when people click on the link underneath your tweet then they goto your site!

Am surprised that you not mentioned twitter in this list dude! anyway have enjoyed reading it!

        Hi Phillip

No I haven't tried branding tweets yet, but I do use Twitter, I was going to include it along with Article Marketing, but my idea was to do a top 10. Next time i'll do a Top 20 as I'm sure you guys have a ton of ways to get traffic for free up your sleeves..

      Hi Romolo

Onlywire is still free, it comes with branding though... but I do use it every day and I've just checked - it is still free, it's very useful. I only submit to 12 social networks at the moment but you can do up to 42 at present.

      Hi osamabindrinking

I don't mind the work, I work 5 days a week in my IM business and I still hold a job at the weekend to pay the mortgage.

It is hard work but it is starting to pay off, slowly...

Keith, your initial post was great - all solid, actionable ideas so thanks for that. But this personal insight is even better. I like to see others that are working in IM to build it up as a sustainable income stream over time rather than always keeping their heads in the clouds for the next "new" thing.

What kind of sites are you promoting with your free traffic? Adsense? Amazon?

          Hi Vince

I use Clickbank products, once I've checked them out as quality products - I use the Warrior Forum and the IM Report Card to do this.

          I also use Amazon Associates

I write articles and Blog posts about the IM niche and insert affiliate links where appropriate. I also use SOME (not too many) clickable banners on my Blog.

What I do is use pretty much the same formula on my Squidoo lenses. I name the title of each lens after a specific long tail keyword, I then use Clickbank links, text widgets with a clickable image pointing to my affiliate products and also links back to my Blog.

I have a Hub Page, i'm on Digg & IM Faceplate and I have a Facebook account with a Fan/Like page.

Apart from a couple of memberships to two sites, both famous marketers, Aweber & Hostgator, my expenses have only been the affiliate products themselves, I buy those I think are good, write a review and do a video. This helps to boost sales as people can see you actually using the product.

If you do an honest appraisal, people will trust & like you and in the end they will probably buy from you at some stage.

          I hope this helps

          Keith

Benjamin, totally agree - The Exciting Life, I think you can use a combination of those particular strategies to produce even better results.. here's what I do.

I write a Blog giving a daily Money Making Tip..

      1) I turn the Blog post into an article and I submit it to the directories, eZine Articles etc.

      2) I turn the Article into a Video and then distribute this to the Video sharing sites, such as YouTube, Viddler etc.

      3) I also then place the video back on to the Blog in amongst the original Blog post and syndicate the Blog via Networked Blogs on to Facebook.

I have 3300 friends on Facebook so it does get seen.

This syndicates the Blog and the video post on to my Facebook wall, my Facebook Fan Page and my old style Facebook group. Plus it sends it out to my Twitter accounts all on Auto Pilot.

Once your Blog post, your Article and your video are out there, everything points back to the Blog...

Later on in the evening, I upload the YouTube video up to my Facebook account so everyone gets to see it again on Facebook..

Depending on the niche I think those all work well except for #10. I don't think there is much reciprocal link building going on anymore. There seems to be little if any value in it. Some even claim if you go overboard with it there is a negative affect from Google's standpoint.

Guys I especially love 6) Forum Marketing, this is one that I use the most, as this allows me to do my market research as to what people want and are looking for.... also GREAT way to build a relationship with others

Osama, I totally agree with you saying it's hard work, it does take some work in the beginning, the key thing is to stay focused and determined enough to see it through to completion..

Keith you have given us very good set of tips... I will def use these in my business

    Hi Janice,

Yes, you can certainly go overboard. I would rather have a few good links exchanged with high traffic quality sites than loads of links exchanged from any old site... Quality rather than quantity.

Kish... Forum Marketing is a firm favourite of mine, again, i use high traffic forums, not forgetting to use a clickable signature, offer good advice & responses to people's problems, build long term relationships with people.

Cashflowexcel - Great shout, Thanks, Yahoo answers is very cool, it has worked for me in the past, it just didn't make my top 10 of current favs..

jerem25 - The very nature of some of these tips is that they do go viral. Most of my stuff does end up going viral. For instance, when I post the Videos, they often get passed on and shared by my Facebook friends.

Sharing your Blog through Networked Blogs means that people on Facebook see, like and sometimes share. Squidoo lenses can be shared on Facebook and my free reports do contain links to both my products and websites.

I should make MORE of the sharing of reports though - I don't actually mention it, so yes, the more viral...the better

          acedring - You are welcome

kalindu - You too are welcome, the basics often work the BEST...

Bassmunchkin - I am a great fan of forum marketing, since yesterday when I started this thread my stats to my Blog have jumped massively. I do know a lot of other ways of getting traffic as I've talked about them a lot on the Blog.

These are 10 basic ones which I thought someone new could implement fairly easily for free.

DNchamp - Basic as you say, did me proud on my Blog - rated 187,000 on Alexa in 5 months, you obviously need good content updated daily loaded with good keywords but these traffic methods have helped me rank better... and they're FREE.... love that word

      Hi Stuart,

Facebook rules state that you should only have the one account, however we create a Facebook Fan Page (soon to be called a "like" page) for our business.

You will need to attract traffic to this page, and the people you attract will need to "like" the page in order to view the content.

You interact with the people on this page, and you offer them great content.
If you look after these people, some will visit your Website or Blog and some will opt in to your list.. providing you have added a squeeze page.

Blog Sharing... - Syndicating your Blog... this means attaching your Blog to the Facebook network via an application called Networked Blogs.

This free application, can syndicate your Blog, so your published Blog posts will appear on your Facebook wall, your Facebook "Like" page, your Facebook old style group (if you have one) and your Twitter accounts automatically.

Great list Keith and a couple on there that I don't use so I might give a go.

    I would also add:

    1. Article marketing - I know you said you haven't done much of it so didn't add it to the list - but it is one of my favourite methods.

    2. Set up a few 'general' blogs of your own and use them for backlinking. I have a number of blogs with Blogger, Wordpress, Weebly, Tumblr, Soulcast and a few more where I add posts to with backlinks to my sites. These are fairly general so I can add articles from all sorts of niches, but it just helps to give those extra backlinks.

    Take care

    Keith

this is a GREAT post! I do everything on the list except for onlywire and link exchange. My favorite would have to be blog commenting, forum marketing, and guest posting...Those are the easiest to start out with.

Good tips, however, I would not get into the link exchange - your No. 10. Instead, search out the sites you want that permit do follow comments and your link with a well worded and helpful comment. That eliminates Google noticing the reciprocal link. We never know what Google has in mind to change, and I'd prefer not to have reciprocal links - or at least more than just a very few.

AprilCT & RichKent - Point taken with Link Exchanges - I must admit though my experience on the first few links added was fairly good, maybe minimum amount of links to just a few KEY sites?

simplebutcreative - Blog Commenting, seems pretty solid here on the forum that this is the way to go with LINKS.. Forum Marketing, I love doing this, Lionk Exchange, the Jury is still out... Has anyone else had any success with Link Exchanges?......

samson132 - Glad you like the thread

      Hi Nancy,

Glad you like the post, I give away a lot of free info from myself and guest Bloggers (some are from this forum) each day on my Blog so I just wanted to give it as a tip on here. I will be passing on lots more ideas and strategies hopefully over the next few weeks...

I have commented on here before but never actually started a thread before..

      Thanks for your comments
