This WILL save You a lot of $$ in 2011 and will probably make you a lot of money too

Hello Warriors,

This thread is inspired by a conversation I had few days back with one of my previous students.

He asked my opinion about an expensive product which consisted of some 'business in a box' kind of products, some software and a lot of ebooks with MRR.

Since he already had a lot on his plate, plus he hadn't finished what he promised he would, in one of our mentoring sessions. I asked him this.

"Whatsup with the stuff you were supposed to have finished this week?"
*stuff being the task previously decided of course

His reply was something along the lines of

" Oh yea, I'm working on it... I just got busy because xxxx happened and then I got stuck in xxxx, but once I'm done with xxxx, I will definitely get the stuff done and let you know. But what about this awesome [insert expensive product here] I want you opinion about?

You see where I'm going with this yet?

I know a lot of newbies who do the same thing. They buy, and buy and keep on buying the awesome product which looks like the answer to all their troubles. Financial troubles at least.

I don't know who coined the term 'shiny object syndrome' but I think its perfect in this example.

Also, I think it was Bryan Kumar who said and I'm paraphrasing here " The money you make online is directly proportional to amount of paypal/payment buttons you've got out there"

So how will this save you a lot of money in 2011 and will probably make you a lot of $$ too?

Simple. Here is what I teach my students to help them making buying decisions when they see a product.

Buying new products/courses/tools is awesome if it helps you take you business to the next level BUT here is a simply rule I personally follow when I buy a new product.

I ask myself these questions.

Will this help me IMMEDIATELY?

Does it fit in with what I'm doing right now?

Will it sidetrack me from my current plan of action or will it actually help me with it? enhance my results? help with what I'm working on right now?

You see I've saved anywhere between $5-10k in 2010 by following this simple rule alone.

I realize this is getting a little too long and I wouldn't want to bore you so here is the conclusion.

This came from one of my early mentors, Randy Smith. He always had this little blurb in his emails saying

"Only buy stuff that is going to help you immediately, not stuff that might someday."

This will save you a lot of $$ that you'd have wasted - think all the stuff that is sitting on your hard drive right now that you haven't touched, or used.

And it will help you make a lot of money in 2011 by helping you buy only quality stuff, it will help you focus on what you are working on at the moment automatically increasing productivity and delivering much better results.

This is to your success in 2011.

Regards,
Maddi Murtaza

Another tip I would add is this:

Always look for leverage. Leverage the heck out of everything.

Did you write a great piece of content? Publish it in multiple places, repurpose it for videos, slideshows, docs, podcasts, etc. Bookmark everything with ping.fm, etc.

Make the most with what you've got and save time by using leverage.

Yes this is so true. There is also the possibility for information overload where there is so much info swimming around in your head, that its impossible to take any action at all. The key is to define your goal and only add products to your arsenal that help in the completion of that goal. Otherwise, you become just a product buyer instead of an actual marketer.

It's really true! I like that you shouldn't buy a product unless it will help you immediately. You really only should buy specific products that make up for what you lack.

Say you're awesome at creating content but suck at driving traffic. Get something that specifically helps you drive traffic.

It's all about putting the pieces together on what works for your goals and buying products accordingly.

This is great advice. You won't make money until you stop spending money. The only things I spend money on are domain names, hosting and a program or two here and there that help automate stuff I don't like doing manually. All the information you need is right in front of your face. You just have to know how to see through all the fluff.

LOL, you threw me off on this one

Great advice Maddi. What newbies truly need to do is FOCUS on one system and work at it for a long enough time for it to be successful and once they succeed, they can easily repeat and then move on to the next project.

I know that I personally fell into the trap of the newest greatest thing for a long time. One thing after another with nothing to show for it but a list of half finished projects.

This does not mean however that you need to stop learning new things, you just don't have to go out there and keep purchasing programs and distracting yourself. This business is constantly changing and you need all the knowledge you can get your hands on. From there you can more easily adapt new methods that what you are doing now to improve your current projects and keep things moving forward.

Excellent advice Maddi. Too often people jumpfrom one thing to the next, then wonder why doesn't internet marketing work, when all they really need to do is find the one thing that works and stick with it, no matter how unsexy or non shiny button it is. Then they can get that one method going on autopilot and then and only then move on to the next thing.

    Best wishes,

Great advice. I especially like those questions. I wish I had asked myself those questions many times back in the 90's. I hate to think about the money and even worse the time I wasted.

Those questions could also help you not to miss out on something that actually could help you. Newbies can also be afraid to spend money or time on things that could take them to the next level

I think often results are not only slow coming but they are not guaranteed at all! So we give up, thinking the idea's a loser, which it may well be - as a newby you tend to think up ideas which really have no potential - and you move on to the next 'thing'! I have so many crappy sites kicking around it's unreal! It's only when I focused and gave things time that things started to change.

This is excellent advice. We're constantly bombarded with time-sensitive and awesome deals for this program and that, and while some may be legitimately good deals, we all only have 24 hours each day, and there is really no point in stockpiling something that we have no immediate use for, as they typically just end up cluttering our hard drives and distracting our focus from what we should be ultimately doing.

I wouldn't call it "Junk". Its Junk because its of no use to you, its junk because it wasn't necessary at the first place and its junk because you never put it to use.

You see I have an issue with that. over time from trial and error kind of voids the point of OP doesn't it.

If you ain't buying the products/course that you actually need to put to use immediately and will take you business one step further fast and its pretty much pointless saving the money because you are losing much more time in the process.

Will it sidetrack me from my current plan of action or will it actually help me with it? enhance my results? help with what I'm working on right now?]

I think this all the time, but i fail to stick to it because I've been able to convince myself that "I'm undertaking vital forward planning" by buying products that I know won't get used for a while.

I know this is self delusion and seeing it put so clearly in your post has made me determined to make this is one of my IM resolutions for 2011.

    Starting today though

    Thanks

    Tony

This makes me think of that Squirrel character Hammy in the movie Over the Hedge - "...But I like the Cookie..." haha.

Thanks for your words of wisdom. But dang it, couldn't you have posted this yesterday BEFORE I dropped a few hundred bucks on software and tools for a project slated for next year?? My rotten timing working against me again...

Thanks again. Here's to your 2011 too.

Someone was able to download a shiny object? I've never been able to download anything shiny.

Maybe I need a new monitor?

          Never? Really?

I don't think its the monitor you need then. A new pair of specs? a brain? an LCD perhaps?

          LOL only jk Dan.

Well, I don't count pictures of Zeus' shiny head because I don't willingly download them. They are forced upon me every time I read one of his posts here.

I know Dan, but it's not really about me, it's about others...

See, I know that there are people out there in mid-holiday season.

They are spending time with their family.

For some, that means they really NEED a distraction! lol

So, by tearing it up, I'm actually HELPING them, so they have a project taping the sheets back together again!

WAIT! I have the perfect launch for next year!

You can definitely make a lot more money by Learning AND taking action. How about that? Or Learning BY taking action?

    Wow. That is absolutely correct.

At least in my case, I know that I did not actually start making money until I stopped looking and just started doing. It's amazing what can happen when you identify this issue and take action. Great post!

    Great advice..
I seem to always buy a lot of WSOs before I even try them out, and eventually I have them all just sitting there on my computer and I don't even know which one to use.
