Hello,

I am very new to making money online and i think i will focus on creating or buying an e-book. Those of you that have e-books do you typically create them yourself or do you buy them?

Thank you,
David

If your not an expert in anything, don't create one! If you are, go for it. Both work just fine!

And why would that be? How do people become experts in anything? I think the answer is they take the time to learn and find out and study...As a matter of fact, creating a product in a market your not an expert in might just help you become an expert...Ever consider that? At least it would help you be knowledgeable enough to work in that market. I think it's ignorant and silly to not try just because you aren't an expert at the time because experts are made...they are not instant.

        Scrofford,

Totally agree with that statement. I suppose I could have elaborated a little more in detail. I guess what I meant was, before creating a product of your own right away, it sometimes it best to see what is out on the Web. I remember the first day I went online and was so excited that I wanted to write my own book right away. I then realized I had no clue what I was actually doing. Learn, Implement, Succeed!

so true, man. if you just sat down and read about a niche for a day or so, you'll probably know more than the average person on that given niche.

and since being an "expert" is relative, you could very quickly become an expert just by knowing more about a given topic than said average person.

heck, you can even have perceived 'expert status' by simply having your own product.

I like to write my own. But I start by doing a lot of research first. I read a ton of articles and take notes on information I plan to use. Then I may also buy some PLR if I don't have everything I need from what I've already read. I just find it easier to put my own thoughts together instead of using a ready-made e-book that I end up changing to make it say what I want it to say.

But it's probably a lot easier to buy an e-book that comes with a sales page, e-book cover, etc.

I have been wanting to write my own ebook for some time. But time restraints keep me from being able to put any serious time or energy into it at the moment. Depending on what you are going to do with it remember you can also go through Amazon and actually have printed copies made to sell.

In the past though I have had PLR stuff rewritten and expanded on by some of my writers and then just looked over it to make sure everything was good.

It all comes down to how big of a project it is and how much time/money you have available.

First, you might want to see how your book would sell. What I have done is promoted some closely related topics in my target market, and if it did well, then I knew it would be a viable market. You can buy PLR or MRR ebooks for just about any topic.

I'm a copywriter and I've still outsourced ebooks to others that I think can do a better job. Granted, I've gotten used to many more niches now and would probably stick to doing them myself at this point.

I write my own, but enjoy doing it. It is time consuming, but you know the final project will be exactly how you want it.

All depends on what you are doing it for though. I could see getting it from someone else if it were for a niche I don't know much about, and don't have much interest in learning about.

I'll be honest, I prefer to use PLR ebooks. they're normally dirt cheap and you can usually find one on any niche that comes with all the sales material (sales letter, thank you page, etc). you could just add content to it to make it better, or take content OUT of it to use as presell material.

I've written my own ebook and where you definitely get that sense of accomplishment afterward, it normally takes a long time to do, especially if you don't know about the particular niche.

      Other options:

      1. If you have the money id outsource, just be very specific in what you want and make sure to check for completed projects from any applicants to find one really qualified for the job.

      2. if you have the money but want the control you'd have by writing the book: just make an audio recording (use audacity or some other free software) and have it transcribed. you can talk about the niche for a couple hours (or less) and have an entire product good to go. after its transcribed and with a little formatting, that could equate to a full, unique 40+ page ebook that takes you 2ish hours and maybe $60-75 to create.

      product creation simplified

I have always written my own, but I am a prolific writer.

Buying one from a ghost writer can be expensive, depending on the topic, the length, how much research is necessary to complete the job, the skill of the writer, and the confidence level of the writer.

You should expect to pay 50% to get the writer to start working and 50% on completion of the job.

This is my first time posting in this forum and i am absolutley astounded at all of the helpful and insightful comments which were provided in a matter of minutes. Obvioisly an incredibly active, helpful and supportive community. Thank you and i hope to add some value as well once i gain some experience.

As i said, i am new to all of this so have been researching my options as to how to make money online and the more i read the more options there are. I was thinking E-book to start with as it seems it would be relatively easy to set up, especially if purchasing one, and if low cost, within the $7-$15 range, even just a couple of sales would cover hosting costs, etc.

Thanks again for the thoughts, it has given me more to think about and i will continue reading and learning for now until jumping in to a type of business, but want to get started asap! Maybe the PRL route, then touch up with a writer...

Depend what you are focus on and niche product.
if you write a ebook which is so common and if you don't have a very good sale page to sell i guess you better outsource to people who can write and make a good sale page to sell but again spent money before you can make money online .. well if you got the money why not !! well those who making big bucks they keep on testing and testing and trying to make it better and fetch a higher price ! that how those big gurus making tons of money !

    DCM,

One more thing about creating your own product is that you understand exactly what your own ebook is about. Your sales copy, articles, and other traffic getting sources will usually bring in more targeted visitors and even sometimes higher conversions. As an affiliate, if you are deciding on going this route, it can be tough to bring in highly targeted visitors if you haven't read the ebook or understand it in full. Just my opinion on that.

Also, it's pretty cool to have your own ebook on the Web!

If you want to monetize and share your knowledge, it's better to write your own.

You can outsource this, but if your really passionate about it then write it yourself and outsource the editing.
