Collecting your Affiliates email addresses? (affiliate page) - Yes / No ??

Many affiliate sign up pages (for us to promote their products) have a optin name + email for you to sign up for, to promote their goodies.

Do you do this, collect email addresses?

if so what are the benifits? or do you think it can backfire, and put the affiliates off? makeing you lose affiliates who come to the page and leave? (as many might not want to give their email out)

I think having an email affiliate list is good if you wish to know who your affiliates are and to be in constant contact with them. You can also build a relationship with them and if your products are good, you can easily ask them to promote any new products you are about to launch into the market.

      thats a valid point.

I wanted to know if it puts affiliates off for subscribing to that product, as they miight thing that I will receive junk mail from these people.

I won't become an affiliate for any product whose vendor expects me to opt in before even letting me see what his affiliate-page is all about, what he's offering/providing, and so on.

I select products from Clickbank, so I have 13,500 active products to choose from, and if a vendor requires an opt-in for his affiliate-page, I'll just move on to another one.

I have no problem with a truly optional opt-in (and I'm not suggesting that a vendor shouldn't want to be in contect with his affiliates, of course - it can actually be a very good sign), but I don't understand why a vendor would require it - and am willing to forego the pleasure of finding out. I'm certainly not the only one.

But if they don't want to - their loss, not mine.

And they do get access to everything anyway.

You mean include the optin page on the same page as everything else (banners, keywords etc) , with these tools being below? - everything on the same page?

What I don't like in particular is to have an "affiliates" link on the sales page besides having the optin. I generally make up my own sales/landing page with optin for my list and link directly to the vendors' cb order page. Some otherwise great products have very poor sales pages anyway. But, that's just me, venting.

No. Selling cb products is actually a very small part of my marketing. I am interested in just getting more subscribers to my lists, and some cb niche products are quite good for that.

Besides, a good autoresponder series seems to beat cookies everytime, in targeted markets.

Are you talking about setting up a squeeze page? I mean, obviously you'll need some sort of communication with them if they are your affiliates. But I'm guessing you mean just collecting emails for those who are interested in becoming your affiliate?

Correct. (an optin form just before they get redirected to my affiliate page)

I am not on about the squeeze page optin form for them.

        Hi,

On my affiliate pages I have a optional email optin box where I ask affiliates to join my list and stay updated on the product.

I think it's best to make it optional. Your best affiliate might just walk away because you wanted his email address, I'd rather give my affiliates the option of promoting without opting in.

          I agree Lee,

It's a good practice to give affiliates the option to opt in
and receive updates on the offer they are promoting.

I don't have a problem with a vendor only allowing
affiliates to opt-in. It's their affiliate program and they
can run it however they choose.

            Of course they can.

Just as we affiliates can promote whatever products we choose.

I used to do a lot of liason with affiliates but now I don't bother. Infact I don't bother with an affiliates page at all. I just list my product in clickbank and thats it.

    Why?

Good affiliates don't need a few banners and something telling them it's a great product to promote blah blah. They'll see the stats in CB and the description, perhaps buy the product and then go out and promote.

If I want to attract affiliates I can go round looking for JVs etc. But the process of doing those JVs means I already have the contact details and I don't need a form. And being good affiliates they can write their own copy, so I see no need to have a standard affiliates page. (I can email them images too if they need them).

I could be way off - and I am sure Alexa may have something to say about this, and probably whatever that is, she is right, but it's my preferred lazy way of doing things and guess what - I still get affiliates promoting my product.

      I agree with you, Martin.

My contention is that the 10% of potential affiliates who can make 90% of your affiliate-referred sales have very little interest in a couple of banners and articles that 100 other people are also using. I'll look, I admit, because you never know, and I've been surprised once or twice. But being forced to opt in just to see what the vendor's up to and offering is a bit irritating ...

I don't doubt that vendors can attract affiliates with fancy affiliate gimmicks. Call me a skepchick but I suspect they're not the affiliates most wanted, though, and not the ones selling the real volume.

I don't mind an optional enter your email address here for more affiliate tools, or product updates type optin. But don't force me to do it.

And if I do optin, don't use me as part of your list to promote crap to.

Make it optional and perhaps offer a demo version of your product (or even the product itself) to your affiliates in exchange for their email address.

Make it worth their while to give you their email address, and with a free copy of your product they will actually be using it, which helps them find the value of your product over another, and makes them want to promote it even more.

Of course, if you've got a crappy product, your affiliates will shy away once they see it, so be sure to do it well!

I would say you could make it optional. It would be a good way to communicate with your affiliates. Some affiliate management systems will automatically allow you to email your affiliates, anyway, you just may not have access to their actual email addresses, which you really shouldn't need anyway as long as you can get in touch with them through your system.

SFI is an example of such an affiliate management system, where you can email your downline but you have no access to their email addresses.
