Can I choose NOT to have my page shown on Google?

I've got two identical Wordpress sites up right now with different domain names and I'm not sure if Google will penalize me for doing that.

If so, is there a way to "unlist" or "hide" one of them? Is that what "de-indexing" means?

    Yes you can hide wordpress sites. Go to wordpress admin > Settings > permissions. And now select to block search engines. So it will block search engines, but allow normal visitors. If those pages are appearing already on google, in a couple of days they will disappear.

    De-indexing can mean removing some pages of your site from google. for this you can either create a robots.txt to disallow some urls or use google webmaster tools to delete urls.

      If I have two sites with separate domains and they have the exact same home pages, is that a no-no in Google's eyes? Should I block one of them from the search engines?
