If you EVER want to make money online you must...

All the tactic, systems, courses, and information will not get you very far unless you have these qualities.

This isn't going to be a post on thinking positive. these qualities are actual tangible qualities and principles you must live by so I hope it doesn't get moved to the positive thinking forum.

The first one is a High willingness to learn.

When I first started I had no idea what hosting, autoresponders, or even how to setup a simple wordpress blog, I never heard of ezine articles or anything else marketing related.

I had never written an article or created any other type of content, I had never setup a website or even heard of html.

But I read a report telling me if I understood these things and did what it said I would be able to make money from home.

the problem was that the report didn't say anything on how to use those things or even what they were.

So by having a high willingness to learn I did whatever it took to learn those things.
Which in my case was hours of Google searching and even more hours watching youtube videos.

If I didn't have a high willingness to learn I would of passed it on and continued to keep buying reports.

I figured it all out and started making a small fortune.

If I didn't understand something I watched the video over and over until I did understand. And if I couldn't figure something out, I sat there and through a process of trial and error eventually figured it out.

The next thing you must have is a high willingness to accept change.

Writing content and marketing information online was a lot different from working in a factory and partying all day long.

If you want things in your life to change you have to change things in your life.

So for me it was sitting down and writing content and syndicating that content until I passed out.

There were other things I could of been doing like partying with friends or watching the idiot box.

which yes those things can be fun, but they were not putting any money into my pockets which was what I needed more than anything else.

With a high willingness to accept change I not only changed my life and work habits I changed my life completely.

I wanted money and a new life, which is what I got.

Instead of partying non stop with my old loser friends, I make more money than I ever thought possible and the people I hang around and associate myself with are millionaires with very successful businesses online and off.

And even though we still party it's a little different than what partying use to be.

So without a high willingness to accept change you will sit in front of the Idiot box all day or run to the bar anytime your friends give you a call or whatever it is that you do all day.

If you truly want to change you will shut off the tv or tell your friends your busy and spend your free time working on your business until your to the point where you can make money all the time whether your working on your business or not.

There is nothing as rewarding as waking up in the morning getting the kids ready for school taking them to school, and by the time you get home to check stats, seeing that you made over $200 while you were sleeping and rushing the kids off to school.

And that's just to start the day, by the time you go to bed it can easily be $500-$1000 depending on the day and how strong you built your businesses foundation.

I agree with you 100%. Just a side note though. Some people, (like me) are more than computer literate. Not saying you were not, but there is less of a learning curve for some of us. I think that can act as a disadvantage sometimes. If we think we already know it all, we may be less likely to listen and learn, which is bad...

Also, let me add that you have to be able to accept when you are wrong. There have been some things that I believed were right for a loong time, then I ran across the truth. Once you do that, you have to be willing to start over.

very true some people won't admit they were wrong even after knowing that they were wrong.

Learning the individual components required for IM is the easy bit (even though it demands time and effort) What is so difficult is finding out the truth about how to put it all together and which pieces of the jigsaw are actually still missing.

Accepting you have been doing it all the wrong way is one thing having the confidence to try yet another way and believe that you now have the answer is something different.

"If at first you don't succeed try try try again" should be the moral of the journey for anyone embarking on IM

This is true. We are creatures of habit and it is hard to make changes especially when we aren't sure of the outcome so we say what's the point? Accepting change is the cornerstone to seeing your life change before your eyes. But you must change not only your actions but also your outlook, beliefs and expectations.

    You Must.....

    BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF!

If you are bad at something and try to lie to yourself and say you are good at it, you'll fail.

Concentrate on your skills, capitalize on them to the fullest, and surround yourself with people who are experts in the things you are bad at.

    You also must...

Ask why you want to be in business for yourself!

    Money? Fame? Charity? Freedom?

Focusing on the wrong driver will also increase the failure rate. I would say that most people start a business because they want to make more money or because they want more freedom. Sadly, new businesses usually take time to profit and require much more work than a 9 to 5 job.

This is a very good post but one thing you should add to the equation is outsourcing sometimes it just no possible to learn everything particularly if time is in short supply.

You do need of course to learn the basics

I was in school when there were no computers and later, when I saw a computer on TV that filled an entire room, never thought that I could have one on my lap!

However, I have taught myself a lot of the stuff that I need to know to grow my business.

I started out the usual route of buying reports etc, to tell me how to do stuff until I realised that, these days, there is a way to find out how to do most things - for free. Search the net to find the answers to your questions.

If I try to learn something and realise that I'll never be able to 'get it' or I'm just not enjoying the learning, I find someone who can do it.

    I outsource.

The Warrior Forum has been my saviour.

The people on here are so helpful and if you are stuck with anything, they will always try to guide you in the right direction - just ask.

I am not at all technically minded but now know how to install and design a passable WP site.
I can build a simple html site and upload it.
    I understand SEO (well, nearly...).
I understand the need for backlinks.
    I understand article marketing.
I undestand affiliate marketing and so on and on...

All of this has come from the desire to know how to do things for myself, putting the time into actually doing it and finding someone on WF to do the things that I can't (or don't want to) do.

You also need to be able to accept that not everything stays the same - things change and you must be willing to keep up with those changes to stay on top of your game.

My 5 grownup sons are amazed that their 'Old Mum' (their words not mine...:p) can do some of the things that I do. They are even more amazed that I make more money online that I ever did when I had a 'job'.

Persistence and desire to learn is what is needed in IM, too many people give up after a few failed attempts.

Excellent post. Most people get within a few steps of success, but stop without realizing how close they are. Even when it seems as if I am getting no where, I try to push myself a little more, knowing that ALL of my efforts will result in my eventual success.

Because partying is no longer the focus. It's a funny thing....it actually makes partying more fun when it isn't the focus.

If you ever want to make money you have to provide VALUE. Just like Google, people like new valuable information and content. Of course there's more to it, but you can add this to your list.

so many people fail to understand this. Your income will be in direct proportion to the amount of value you provide.

To many people are putting out worthless content then wondering why they aren't making any sales.

you do still have to promote that content and some other things of course, but BS content won't get anyone very far.

I agree with your post whole heartedly.

I believe you need to have almost an obsessive personality to be able to make money online. You need to be able to take a hit, financially and emotionally as you will see a lot of failure. Its a very high barrier of entry, one that I haven't even crossed. At least I understand that there is no such thing as easy money and I am going to have to work for what I get.
