How to best support my new affiliates

Hi,

I recently decided to open one of my services so that affiliates could promote it, I then invited all of my existing customers to become affiliates.

I sent a email breifing them on what affiliate marketing is then sent them to a affiliate page telling them what to do (step by step) and made it very easy for them to create affiliate links and told them where to put them.

The problem is my affiliates are doing very little in terms of promoting and in fact only two out of 300 are actually getting hits and making sales.

How can I help my affiliates to perform better?

I think a good basic guide to affiliate marketing would be great any ideas would be appreciated.

    Hi Lee,

Ideally you would run the campaigns for them. LOL.

What I want to say with this: Give them as much information are you can. Basically make it a copy-paste thing.

Create for example Adwords campaigns, test them and then let your affiliates take them over.

Or create banners, test them and tell your affiliates where to place them.

You can also offer free coaching via instant messenger or Skype.

And don't worry if only two of 300 really promote your product, just recruit more.

Welcome to running an affiliate program - where 20% of your affiliates will generate 80% of your aff sales volume. Pareto Principle in full effect.

Seriously though, hpgoodboy had some great advice. I would also add: make sure your sales copy and product cover are top notch -- affiliates judge a promotion by these measures all the time. And make sure your affiliate payout is high enough to get them off the couch.

You should be giving them all of your data that you did during testing (assuming you did test your own product).

Explain how they can market your product just like you marketed it to them.

It may be this group was just not really interested in being affiliates in the first place. You say they were customers but that may be all they want to do. You may want to try some of the traditional ways to attract affiliates - people that are looking for that as a way to earn money. The percentage of active and successful affilliates might be higher.

If you think there is more potential among your current group I have found sometimes a contest can generate some excitment and activity. Something like: "The top three people with the most sales/sign-ups before _______ win a bonus of _____."
