Paypal finally came through for me!!

28 replies
Woohoo!

I have been in paypal limbo for months now with the bank messing me about and paypal refusing to play ball but tonight I just got an email telling me I have been restored so once I build up my funding again I will be in full swing

Dear Phil,

We have completed our review, and as you have completed all the required
steps, we have restored your account.

We would also like to thank you for your patience and cooperation during
this process.

Yours sincerely,
PayPal
Will take me a few months to get things going as my bank balance has been severely depleted in this time but THANK GOD!! I can now return to buying and selling and trading on the interwebs with impunity lol

    Wow. You're the first person I've heard that has actually had an account with them restored after being suspended. If you care to share the details about how you lost and then got back your account, it may help others in the same boat.

    I've never had any problems with them, but have also heard the stories.

    You've been able to validate that you're different than all those other people.

      By law, they restore them all. I have heard it takes a long times sometimes, and they remove money if they don't think it belongs to you.

      They only actually kill the accounts of people who are guilty of fraud or some other serious TOS violation.

          And your documented source is.....????

          The reality is, PayPal cannot just confiscate anyone's account at will. They will deal with it in one of the three ways I outlined.

            E Brian Rose has a pretty big thread on here about how Paypal just randomly froze his account. I dont know if its still like that now, but you should read that thread

              They freeze them for a reason. It would be important to hear PayPal's side of the story if that were possible. There are lots of "Urban Legends" about PayPal.

          With all due respect Brian, isn't your account just frozen for six months?

          Your account is not yet absolutely killed is it?

          p.s. Not saying what they did to you is right. I am just saying that as far as I know, your account is just frozen.

    Clickbank I find is the best alternative if you are selling a product or paydotcom.com

      Paydotcome isn't an alternative to Paypal as it integrates with your paypal account.

    What happened back in the day is that I tried to verify my bank details so just as Santander took over Abbey (for anyone living in England) which then made it like my bank didn't exist and couple this with the epic pooch screw of monumental proportions that using a wrong account would do when it will not allow transfers like that :p

    Basically it was simply a case of sending them documentation of my name and address, what took a lot longer than that was actually getting around to fixing my decrepit computer and making sure it would send something I scanned...

    My scanner works perfectly if you want to record the sound of a thousands sledgehammers being churned in a cement truck, it is not that great for getting pictures on your computer though lol

    ~~~
    And yes, I had considered using other processors and actually have Alertpay but truthfully I was having a hard time telling other people who do this what it is, let alone anyone else who are familiar with paypal and recognise it as the de-facto standard lol
    Great to hear that you got your account finally restored. I personally have not had any issues with Paypal (knock on wood), but already have alternatives in place just in case things go south, and I'd either use my merchant account or Google Checkout.
    If you want to hear their side of the story, just do a Pacer court document search for PayPal cases and see their responses. Quite often, their defense is that the user agreement states that they can freeze an account for any reason that they want and that they do not have to justify it. You can call it urban legend all you want, but that would be silly, considering that PayPal themselves have stated this. I am not advising people not to use PayPal, just not to put blind faith into any company, especially one that tells you they can do what they want, when they want.
      Do tell, though - will you continue to use PayPal after this debacle? It is good to have your money back, but after a long ordeal like that I might consider switching to something else like AlertPay...
    Yes I will use them, after all it is my own stupidity in using a wrong account that caused it all and I am not that rich that it makes a difference, I simply had to learn how to do many things for cheap or free and also try to work some stuff out on my own (I am crap at writing for instance but damn good at finding domain names) ...and when is that a bad thing? lol
    The biggest problem that everyone has is that they are the biggest provider in the world with the most exposure and that guard that jealously and will not get together with anyone else, effectively holding a monopoly and they may not be the best or have the best ease of use or even the best service record but apparently that does not seem to matter since they were here first. MySpace was before Facebook but that went by the wayside because it couldn't keep up....maybe what paypal needs now is to be FORCED to team up with other providers to help customers rather than simply locking their account, effectively freezing their assets off in the cold and leaving it like that.
    Paypal was the first and got the widest press, that does not mean they are the best and until they have some real competition from the likes of Amazon teaming up with Alertpay or something like Ebay did they can do whatever the hell they please :p
    Congrats.
    But don't assume anything. Find an alternative payment processor.
    PayPal can still screw you up yet, again.
    Lesson learnt? Always have more than one payment processor incase this type of thing happens. If you had 2 you could have just swapped out the links and continued on as normal.
