What parts of your business do you wish you could automate?

Hey everyone,

Here's the skinny. I'm a web developer and am always looking for ways to make my life easier by automating, simplifying, or cutting time taken on boring or monotonous tasks.

I'm wondering what parts of your business YOU wish you could automate or simplify, and how much time you think it would save you per week and per year.

I've been considering taking one Warrior over winter break and using custom web programming to cut down the amount of time they spend on their business. It depends on the response I get from this post and how much time I actually have available.

Obviously this would free up lots of time for you to do other, more interesting things and would make your life easier.

Looking forward to your responses!

I wish I could automate everything except for relationship building...

there isnt much I think I can automate without hiring. Like site creation and traffic generation. I just hired a VA the other day which seems to be going well

That's awesome. Hiring a VA is definitely something I'm looking to do down the line.

I'm referring more to simplifying tasks. So.. for example I used to know someone that would look at all this different data a software he owned supplied him, and then he'd do his own custom analysis on it in a spreadsheet. Plugging in equations here and there, and then referencing that data with other data he had to manually go look up online.

With web programming I could easily have had all those equations done FOR him and then had the other data he looked up "scraped" off of the various web pages and displayed in one location for easy access.

This would remove lots of headaches, reduce human error, and cut down the time he spent doing this probably around an average of 30 minutes a day.

Or.. consider simplifying the tasks of your users.

You have a membership site that requires members to register once with the site to access the private area, then again to access the forums. Why not just have the forum account automatically created for them using the same username and password?

Sorry if my examples suck, but hopefully that made sense!

I already do this. I create a new task, develop it until it is really doing something great, and then I train people to help me, or get them to write a program.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Yep, this is exactly what I'm talking about. It's hard to say what one could automate for everyone's benefit, because everyone has different processes related to their business.

Even when I worked at a software company, I was amazed at the repetition people would go through day to day that could easily be automated or simplified with custom web (PHP, MySQL) programming.
