I would like some feedback on my idea for a potential sales funnel that I'm thinking of using.

Customer purchases product from here and is taken to PayPal to make payment. Once payment is made, the customer will be taken to an upsell page to another product. They can either purchase or scroll to the bottom of page and click "No thanks......" On the next page, the customer will have to enter their name and email address to receive their purchase. On this page there may be a bonus product.
For those customers that take the upsell product, they will be redirected back to another page to collect their name and email address to collect their purchases.

It's against PayPal's Terms of Service to force people to
give you their contact details before they receive the
    download they've paid you for.

You can ask them for their contact details but you must
give them the download link immediately after they've paid
    you via PayPal.

So, unless you want your PayPal account terminated,
you'll need to re-design your sales funnel.

Oh that's right, I'd forgotten about that.

OK so the customer goes to a thank you page with the download link, but how do we capture their name and email address? What do I do as an incentive?

I normally add an opt-in box at the top of the page
giving people the option to subscribe to my list and
then also include a download link directly below it.

Make a great offer and you'll get more people signing
      up for your list.

So, think about the product they've just bought and
then offer them a useful additional bonus or a related
      product.

Sometimes, if they've just bought a PDF report, I'll
offer them the audio or video version if they join my
      list.

      Dedicated to mutual success,

Do you have or know of an example I can look at? Everything makes more sense to me when I have a visual representation.

Why not instead capture their email address and name from the paypal ipn, and prefill the opt-in form for them. Then make a case for opting in by suggesting product updates and new products will be announced on that list.

I usually just put an optin form below the download link and I offer a freebie and let them know that they will be getting future product announcements on the list.

I don't try to force people to optin because I really only want people on my list that actually want to be on the list. I figure that 10 people who actually want to hear about my products and what I have to say are worth way more than 100 people who were forced to signup.

The autoresponders I've worked with all have some kind of API/email-subscribe, so you could collect the information during payment and then send that information "in the background" to the autoresponder.

So the customer goes from product page to Paypal, then from Paypal to "Please check your inbox and confirm..." (double opt-in).

I can't post links yet, but try googling for "how do i integrate paypal with aweber" (change aweber to the autoresponder you are using)

        Hey Danny,

Was not aware Aweber did that, thanks for that tip I am going
        to google it now.

          Hi,

As long as you can accomplish that, I mean that paypal allows you to setup those kind of redirects, etc... then I find that really good and normal too, many do that... nothing extraterrestrial in that

Give them the option of downloading without opting in, but say something like "Note: you will miss out on free upgrades, bonuses and other perks if you choose this option" underneath the link.

            Works for me.

Thanks for the input guys. Keep them coming.

What about if I offer a bonus on the thank you page, but to claim the bonus they must opt in?
