What do you look for in a marketing video?

I've seen and created some very cool looking marketing videos
with lost of fancy animation and transitions.

I've also seen and created some very basic slide show type videos
that appear to have the same impact when it comes to IM.

My question is this..

How important are the special effects in a marketing video to you?

Are you more concerned with the message in the video?

How do you decide whether a marketing video is any good or not?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks in advance

Personally I'm going off some of the heavy graphics videos they are kind of impersonal, I think people should get on screen and then cut to graphics when needed.

i like Maria Andros's recent launch videos because they told a story but were visually great and shot on location.

I think a test is will you remember it in 6 months.

      That's a great point...

I guess if you can remember a marketing video after 6 months then it
must have had an impact on you.

I like videos that are... professional but still personal?

Like its clear that someone knows what they're doing, its not shaky, its a good angle, the effects are clean, the audio is great, but its still... personal, like the marketer is just talking with a friend (thats me), trying to share this cool new thing they've found.

I agree... I'll take substance over just style any day.

I do think a professional presentation with enough sizzle to make it clear, I'm not some bozo with a Handycam in my garage is needed.

But to me an interesting, character drive story is most engaging. I like the intelligent voices with a bit of authority but that don't take themselves too seriously (this is IM after all). Humor is key too.

          Just my opinion and thoughts.
