It's so funny when New Years comes around, how many people promise to quit smoking and lose weight... the jump in purchasing is obscene.

Of course... I've promised to quit smoking three new years in a row... point me to the next ebook.

St Patrick's Day in March can add a useful seasonal profit boost too. There are large Irish communities in most major cities and many of them love to spend out on the annual shamrock-themed knees-up.

I'm planning NOT to quit smoking this year, in the hope that for once I can get self-sabotage to work in my favour

If you watch the tube, there seems to be a season on diamond jewelry that runs from roughly Thanksgiving (November) through Valentine's Day (February) and ending on Mother's Day (May).

The general theme is "if you loved her, you'd buy diamonds, schmuck..."

I think that's perhaps more of an evergreen, persistent market. There are always birthdays and anniversaries throughout the year too, and, of course, you need jewelry for those too.

You have to sort of admire the gall of the diamond peddlers. They make a mint off of one of the most common elements on Earth. On top of that, they've found a way to get a premium price for what was once considered undesirable, such as dirty, brown, discolored diamonds that they now promote as "chocolate diamonds." LOL.

I'd say that "weight loss" also belongs in the May/June category - women are gearing up for swimsuit season!

While I think you might have a tough time finding a woman who thinks there's a wrong time of year for diamond jewelry, the three holidays I mentioned tend to get the most media focus. And because of it, higher consumer awareness.

So I guess you could say it's an evergreen market with seasonal peaks, kind of like flowers. While people send flowers all year, you could make seasonal pushes for Valentine's Day Roses, Mother's Day whatever and even Memorial Day graveside markers.

I agree with you on the chocolate diamonds, Don't care much about the yellow ones, either. Lots of rocks prettier than diamonds, too...

Soon, they'll have enough different colored diamonds to have a diamond flower ring or some crazy thing.
