Internet business started on November 13, 2007, it goes viral and does $107,000,000.00 in 2009

I give anyone some massive credit for growing a business like this. HOWEVER, these people were "insiders". Started by an early ebay executive, doubleclick founder, and a louis vutton executive.

Still an impressive feat...but I'm just more impressed by some dude in his basement with no contacts, who just starts a business that does $5M/year.

Unless someone is a teenager seeking to make pocket money or someone living in a country where $1 effectively equals $10, ebooks is not the way to go.

Actually, promoting $20 e-books is a terrific place to start....
IF it is the beginning of your lead collection blueprint
IF is is the first part of your marketing funnel
IF you are starting out and you want to build a reputation, credibility, and trust, and
IF it is an e-book that contains a lot of pertinent, quality information and is not some rehashed dreck

There are probably some more good caveats, but you get the idea. Well.....my idea, at any rate.

No, that's why you create and sell your own $20 ebooks... Writing short reports is fast and easy. No filler, just pure useful information.

If you do it right it can produce a huge business and the great thing is there's no overhead and the cost of entry is extremely low.

$100,000,000 is a huge amount of money but considering you do not have any risk even $100,000 a year is a great income. Which means you only have to sell 13 copies per day.

I'm sure just about anyone, given the right advice, can find 13 people per day to buy their reports for $20 bucks, somewhere in the world.

And of course you setup your backend $297 course to sell to those who just purchased your reports.

Wow, now I'm even more excited about getting into business for myself in the fashion industry in the near future. Plan on launching my own clothing line in a few years, already have the brand name but it's top secret.

Before febuary 2011, I would have made $1,000 in a truely innovative way. I am dead serious with this plan and I will see it through. So help me God!

Yeah I really hate when people post stories like this as if everyone is able to replicate them. Truth is no matter how hard you work, something out there you cannot control (call this what you may) must be in your favor to fall into that kind of fortune

Unfortunately this is true. Luck plays into everything we do, I guess the way I look at is that its better to have tried and failed, then to not have tried and be left wondering.

These two women worked day and night on their business. Did you hear how they set up a launch? That takes a lot of work.

Write it off as luck all you want, but all it is, is an excuse you are making for yourself as to why they are successful and you are not (as).

They took action, they had a game plan, a unique idea, and they went after it. Luck, while im sure there was some of that, had little to do with their success.

Then you're taking the wrong action.

It is when you write the script...

Stories like this are the exception because these are exceptional people.

I'm new here and just thought I had to comment here. I have always heard and truly believe...we make our own luck. This is my gospel. Being a pessimist will not work out for anyone! The correct positive mental attitude is the ONLY thing that will bring about success in your life. I wish everyone good "luck".

Amen to that, John! The key of this exercise is to stretch the psychological limitations that we've placed on ourselves, it doesn't mean we have to duplicate exactly what these ladies did to be a success.

This is really all about pushing us past the arbitrary limits and restraints we place on ourselves, and this is why we want to be in the company of greatness and not mediocrity.

It's funny when I saw your name, first thing that came to mind was ..."time for some action"

I do not believe the founder of DoubleClick has provided much more than funding and connections to the company. The idea and its execution, as far as I can tell, have still come almost entirely from the two young women that serve as the company's public face.

I think those two women lack the real-world experience necessary to see that their revenue projections are not based in reality. As a project manager, my impression is that their burn rate is higher than projected, but they're unwilling to admit it... so they keep staving off investors and acquiring new ones by promising massive growth and huge returns that are simply never going to materialise.

Case in point, they made just over $20 million in 2008, just over $100 million in 2009, and they're projecting over $500 million in 2010. They drew a straight line instead of a curve. They should have projected (i.e. I would have projected) $250 million in 2010.

Watch for their year-end results. I'm confident they'll be closer to my projection than their own, and I know next to nothing about the operational details of Gilt Groupe. But I know big business, and I know mass markets, and I know growth patterns.
